Three Pursuit Options for EMBAs

Broadly speaking, there are three career transition options from which an EMBA student may select.

  1. Most EMBAs, especially those who've been corporately-sponsored, choose to remain with their current employers, and use the MBA as a springboard to more strategic roles within their organizations.

  2. Others launch a self-directed search, networking heavily with personal contacts, EMBA classmates and alumni, Ross alumni, and LinkedIn connections.

  3. Career Services. This works if the EMBA's profile is a match for what on-campus companies seek (typically a more junior-level candidate), or, if the EMBA would like to use networking at corporate presentations as a method to connect to companies for possible higher level positions.

On-Campus Recruiting

EMBAs interested in on-campus recruiting must be aware of the enrollment guidelines and milestones associated with on-campus recruiting. Whether they graduate in April or August, EMBAs may participate in on-campus recruiting the fall prior to graduation. EMBAs wishing to do so must "enroll" or notify the Ross EMBA career counselor of their intentions by June prior to the recruitment season. Once EMBAs graduate, like all other Ross students, they are no longer eligible to utilize on-campus recruiting.

Internship Eligibility

EMBAs are not eligible to participate in internship interviewing on campus. These interview slots are reserved for day students, who have given up employment to attend school full time; the summer internship is part of this experience. EMBAs may, however, reach out to on-campus recruiters outside the on-campus system to be considered for internships. This approach is fully supported by Career Services.

Career Search Activities

Career search activities which EMBAs can take advantage of throughout their time at Ross include corporate presentations and Meet the Company events, as well as services provided by the EMBA career counselor. During September and October, hundreds of employers come to campus to present to students. Formal company presentations are held Monday through Thursday with approximately six to eight companies presenting each night. Each fall, Career Services hosts three informal "Meet the Companies" career events. Check the Recruiting Events database in iMpact to keep in touch with all of the recruitment activities taking place at Ross.

Off-Campus Search/Networking

EMBAs can begin an off-campus search at any time during their Ross program. Career Services suggests EMBAs begin conducting industry/company research and networking many months before the desired career move. For EMBAs, this is by far the most effective job search approach. Make an appointment with the Ross EMBA career counselor to discuss this approach.

Internal Career Moves

EMBAs often discuss strategies for making in-company moves with Career Services. To discuss internal career management issues, make an appointment with the Ross EMBA career counselor.

Career Consulting Services

EMBAs can schedule appointments with Ross Career Services for general career counseling, resume reviews, or mock interviews. In addition, EMBAs can attend career skills workshops and job search action groups facilitated by Ross Career Services. Appointments may be scheduled in person in Ann Arbor or SE Michigan, or via phone. Evening and weekend appointments are available. Sign up for an appointment today.
