Product Description VIA/Insight is a COBOL program providing interactive code analysis facilities to help programmers understand existing systems. It provides answers to a variety of questions that arise during modifications to COBOL. Insight gives programmers advice about changes and automating change tasks. The foundation of Insight is a COBOL Analytical Engine that understands all the logic flows and data paths built-in to any COBOL program as well as the idiosyncrasies of COBOL. This knowledge is available to programmers through two views within ISPF: a COBOL intelligent editor with a varirty of facilities that extend the limited capabilities within ISPF Edit, as well as an analyzed view of the source program with information on data usage and logic flows. This window allows programmers to find the location of fall throughs, dead-code, and dead-data. Programmers can get a quick overview of program's mainline processing and overall structure. The system identifies all logical execution paths of data modifications and simulates execution logic flows (complete with programmer-controlled decision tree branches). Via/Insight supports all versions of COBOL. All COBOL programs are analyzed using the Analytical Engine and stored online in a VSAM repository. As an ISPF application, it provides support for all standard ISPF facilities according to SAA standards.
