Product Description ACSL generates more readable code. The code produced preserves the structure of the original control model definition. This makes the code easy to verify and trace at the source level and also makes debugging at the source code level easier. This is possible by preserving the modularity and hierarchical structure of the block diagram in the calling structure of the generated code. We also preserve the signal and block names of the block diagram in the Graphic Modeler as the variable and procedure names of the generated code. And ACSL automatically inserts the block documentation at the appropriate line of the generated code. Users can selectively optimize the code. Optimizations are also performed during code generation. The generated code can run on any processor. Consequently users are not dependent on a single vendor's processor or board. The generated code is ANSI compliant; no file I/O is tied to a particular vendor; and the type definitions are placed in a central location so that users can support non-standard data types if required.

Additional Requirements ACUCOBOL-GT.
Product Options Versions for seamless compliance with Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase, Informix, DB2, and ODBC-compliant sources.
Product Description The Acu4GL technology provides seamless access to Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase, Informix, DB2, and ODBC-compliant databases from new or existing applications written in ACUCOBOL-GT. It accomplishes this by dynamically generating SQL queries. With Acu4GL, users can benefit from RDBMS technology without learning SQL, rewriting applications, or retraining. Applications need to be compiled only once. Acu4GL eliminates the need to add Embedded SQL to existing COBOL programs; COBOL I/O verbs generate SQL (behind the scenes) to access the database, and then the results are translated into standard COBOL I/O. This bi-directional information exchange allows end users to use fourth-generation report writers and query tools while retaining their COBOL applications.

Acu4GL for ODBC can be used to access local data on a standalone PC or remote data in a client/server environment. It can even be used to access files that are not databases, such as Btrieve data files and Excel spreadsheets. Acu4GL for ODBC provides access to most Windows-based data sources; access to data in multiple data sources, databases and file systems--all from a single interface; a transparent bridge between the worlds of COBOL and Windows; and automatic translation between standard COBOL and the language that is understood by the data source.

Product Description The ACUCOBOL-GT development system enables COBOL developers to implement and deliver GUI-enhanced, Web-enabled COBOL applications. The compiler generates compact, machine-independent object code or, optionally, native object code for Intel and SPARC processors. Once compiled, the machine-independent object code is portable to all of the platforms supported by Acucorp, Inc. ACUCOBOL-GT object files run under IBM AIX, Linux, UNIX, HP/UX, MPE, MPE/iX, OpenVMS, SCO Open Server, Sun Solaris, Digital, and Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000, among others. Native-code objects are completely portable within their own family of processors. Developers using ACUCOBOL-GT can leverage their COBOL expertise to add a native graphical user interface (GUI) to existing applications. GUI extensions mimic standard COBOL syntax. GUI screens, including moveable windows and graphical controls, such as toolbars, push buttons, radio buttons, list boxes, entry fields, and others, are built and processed with DISPLAY and ACCEPT statements. Mouse support is built-in, and the runtime automatically handles most system events.

Product Options   —
Product Description The ACUCOBOL-GT Web Runtime control extends the built-in capabilities of a Web browser, allowing users to execute a COBOL program over the Internet without opening and running it under a separate application. The Web Runtime takes an existing COBOL application and makes it accessible through supported browsers. The Web Runtime runs on 32-bit Windows machines and can access files or run programs on UNIX, Linux, and Windows platforms using AcuServer and AcuConnect, or through other file system interfaces like Acu4GL. The end user installs the Web Runtime on the client machine. The user then visits a Web site and clicks a link or opens a page to launch an ACUCOBOL-GT application. The Web server sends the COBOL program to the local client via HTTP. The COBOL application is then run locally.

Product Options   —
Product Description AcuConnect is a distributed computing technology that lets developers split application processing between multiple machines for optimal performance. Literally a runtime server, AcuConnect handles client requests to start new ACUCOBOL-GT runtimes on server machines. If users want to run programs on server1 one day and server2 the next, they can do so without making any changes to the application code. Users can start multiple programs on the server at the same time. The server programs can call other server programs if desired. In addition, AcuConnect lets developers offload batch processing from the client to the server. AcuConnect gives users access to remote applications and data in local-area, wide-area, or global networks. With AcuConnect, sites can leverage computing resources to their fullest; extend the life of older computing equipment; improve performance by running major processing tasks on the fastest machines; and reduce network traffic, especially for I/O intensive applications.

Additional Requirements ACUCOBOL-GT; 32-bit Windows operating system; Windows data application such as: Microsoft Excel, Access, Microsoft Query, Visual Basic, or Seagate Technologies' Crystal Reports Professional Edition.
Product Options   —
Product Description The AcuODBC communications interface is designed to provide access to COBOL data files from Windows applications. This enables end users to benefit from PC productivity tools without having to restructure existing COBOL data files. Based on Microsoft's Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) standard, AcuODBC lets users retrieve and update ACUCOBOL-GT indexed or relative data files from many Windows-based applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Microsoft Query, Visual Basic, and Crystal Reports Professional Edition. These applications can access data files residing on the same Windows PC, on a different computer in an enterprise network, or on a UNIX, Linux, or Windows NT server in a client/server configuration. Once the COBOL data is in a Windows program, users can take advantage of the graphing, formatting, and reporting functions of the program. A read-only version protects data from write attempts and gives developers the flexibility to hide selected fields of data from users. The read-write version allows developers to hide data, declare elements of the data as read-only, and offer full read-write ability on other data items.

Product Options   —
Product Description AcuODBC Server is an add-on to the AcuODBC product, which is an ODBC driver for ACUCOBOL-GT data. With AcuODBC Server, the SQL processing can take place on a remote Windows NT/2000 or UNIX application server. Queries are passed from the client to the server, where processing can occur, and processing results are then returned to the client. Because the SQL query can be executed on the server, with only the results returned to the client, processing is faster, and network traffic is reduced. AcuODBC Server runs on Windows NT/2000 or UNIX servers with Vision or relative files residing on the same server.

Product Description The AcuSQL product supports the inclusion of embedded SQL (ESQL) statements in ACUCOBOL-GT source code. The AcuSQL pre-compiler, in combination with the AcuSQL runtime library, allows ESQL COBOL programs to access IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, and ISO/ANSI SQL92 compliant data sources. DB2 data can be stored on any of several host systems, including OS/390, AS400, HP-UX, Solaris, AIX, and Windows NT. SQL Server data may be hosted on Windows NT/2000 servers. The AcuSQL pre-compiler scans the COBOL source file for SQL statements. It preserves the original statements in a comment block, performs syntax checking, and then translates each statement into a standard COBOL CALL statement to the AcuSQL library. Pre-compilation creates a temporary file used as input to standard ACUCOBOL-GT compilation, which creates an object file ready for immediate execution. When the object file is executed, the embedded SQL statements (now COBOL CALL statements) are passed to the AcuSQL library, which in turn communicates with the RDBMS middleware (an ODBC level 2 API), establishing connections, retrieving and writing data, and exchanging messages.
