Session Information and Bio:

Have you ever gone on vacation and fantasized about tearing up your return ticket? Have you dreamed of quitting your job? Have you wondered what your life would be like on that path not chosen? A small but growing number of people are pausing their regular life by taking a mini sabbatical -- stepping out of their routines for three weeks to three months. Whether that means traveling between jobs or taking your remote work with you, getting a change of venue could rejuvenate you.

Colleen Newvine, MBA '05, is the author of "Your Mini Sabbatical," a guide to how and why to try on life elsewhere for a while. Colleen is a journalist and certified life coach who has been trying on new homes for her entire adult life. She lived in London for a Temple University study abroad program, then sublet in Manhattan with her husband to consider whether they wanted to live in New York.

In 2011, it turned into a lifestyle. Colleen began working from home so she packed her laptop to soak up the creative energy of New Orleans for two months with her husband. Soon they were living at the corner of Haight and Ashbury in San Francisco for a month, then in a converted garage in a small town on the Atlantic Ocean on Long Island, and above a coffee shop in an even smaller town in the Catskill Mountains. They spent a month in Ann Arbor, and road tested their beginner Spanish in Costa Rican beach towns.
