Online: Zoom

UM Professor and Social/Cultural Historian, Dr. Ian Shin, will lead a dynamic discussion about the documentary, Nailed It. This documentary discusses the booming nail care industry and the entrepreneurs dominating it.

In virtually every city, state and strip mall across the United States, women get their nails done in salons likely owned by entrepreneurs. How did these entrepreneurs come to dominate an $8 billion dollar nail economy? Nailed It takes viewers from Los Angeles to the Bronx to meet the diverse people and relationships behind this booming and enigmatic trade. Dr. Shin will discuss the documentary and frame it within modern day cultural and societal issues.

Anyone interested in attending the discussion is requested to watch Nailed It first. The documentary costs $4.99 to rent or $12.99 to own on Vimeo. (https://vimeo.com/ondemand/nailedit). Nevertheless, you can attend the discussion without watching the documentary.
