Office Communications Server 2007

The Ross School of Business now has an Office Communications Server (OCS) to manage real-time communications.  This server works with the Office Communicator 2007 software application to allow many types of communication, including IM and Audio/Video conferencing.

Get Together with MS Office Communicator 2007

What is Office Communicator 2007?

Office Communicator 2007 allows people to work together remotely using Instant Messaging or Audio/Video conferencing with VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol) technology.  Use our OCS client to communicate with your fellow classmates, team members and colleagues.  Easily share documents and work together.

Take your meeting beyond IM - Audio/Video conferencing is now possible with VoIP technology.  You can schedule a conference directly from Microsoft Office Outlook with the Outlook plugin.

See how MS Office Communicator 2007 with Live Meeting can help you work together - download the instructional overview.

What About Mac Users?

Mac users using a Windows OS will have full functionality of Office Communicator 2007, with the exception of the Outlook plugin.

Users with the Macintosh operating system can still use OCS through the web interface, however only the IM feature will be available.  You will not be able to share files or participate in audio/video conferences.

 Communicator Mobile 2007

Communicator Mobile can be installed on mobile devices (Pocket PC or Smart Phone) using Microsoft Windows Mobile ® 5.0 or Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional.

Download the setup and configuration guide to get started.

 Install the OCS Software

Download Office Communicator 2007 with Live Meeting below and follow the instructions for installation.  If you already have LCS with MS Communicator 2005, be sure to close it from the system tray.

NOTE:  If you are using Microsoft Office 2007, you must have Service Pack 1.  This installation will let you know if you need the service pack and will provide a link to the update.  Once the update is complete (approximately 10 minutes), reboot your machine and rerun the Communicator install file from the above link.

 Want OCS without the Software?

Perhaps you are using the Macintosh OS or a computer that is not your own.  Perhaps you simply do not want to download and install the software.

You can still use the OCS for IM using a web interface at www.lcs.umich.edu.  Note that the web interface does not support audio/video conferencing.
