Emergencies can happen, no matter where you are, and we want to make sure you are as prepared as possible.
Keeping You Healthy
The University of Michigan requires that you have HTH Travel Abroad Insurance when traveling on a University-related trip. This inexpensive insurance is extremely valuable in the case of needed routine medical care and priceless should an emergency medical situation arise.
Sometimes HTH Insurance is purchased on your behalf by the travel program. Please confirm with your program administrator. If this is not the case, you are required to purchase this insurance directly. An added benefit is that you can purchase HTH for any personal travel you add on before or after a program.

Keeping You Safe
The University of Michigan is committed to support you should an unforeseen natural disaster, political upheaval or the like occur while you are abroad. But the University must be aware of your travel plans or they may not be able to assist you. Therefore, University policy requires you to enter your travel plans in the University of Michigan Travel Registry prior to departure. Some group programs may enter your travel information in the Registry on your behalf. However, you are responsible for ensuring that your itinerary is entered into the Registry. If you are extending your trip with personal travel, you are responsible for entering this additional information in the U-M Travel Registry yourself.

Let Someone Know Your Plans
In addition to the safeguards the University has in place, we recommend that you designate a parent or other trusted adult with whom you will leave your travel plans and documentation. Give a copy of the following information to this trusted adult and keep another copy with you while abroad:
- Passport (copy of photo page and visa, if applicable)
- HTH Insurance Card
- Airline Ticket
- Full Itinerary, including contact information for hotels or places where you plan to stay overnight
- Credit Card Numbers
