Frequently Asked Questions

How important is it for me to attend Go Blue Rendezvous?

Go Blue Rendezvous (GBR) is a wonderful opportunity to get to know Michigan Ross, your future classmates, and the city of Ann Arbor all before formal orientation in August. Although the event is not mandatory, we recommend that you attend. Many students take advantage of GBR to find roommates and to investigate housing options, and we are certain that you will have an exceptional time!

When should I expect to hear from my Student Guide?

Your student guide will either e-mail or call you at least one week prior to GBR weekend. You will have a chance to meet your guide when you arrive on Thursday afternoon.

How do I get to Ann Arbor?

If you are flying, please book your tickets to Detroit International Airport (DTW). Detroit is a Delta Airlines hub, but is also serviced by most other major airlines.

The airport is a 30 minute drive from the University of Michigan campus. Taxis from the airport to Ann Arbor typically cost ~$50-$60. The Ann Arbor Airport Shuttle rates run slightly cheaper. A third alternative is the Michigan Flyer. This shuttle services Ann Arbor at the Four Points Sheraton, which is within walking distance of our other recommended hotels, and costs $15 one-way.

Where is Michigan Ross located?

The main entrance to Michigan Ross is located at 701 Tappan Street in Ann Arbor, MI.  Once you arrive in the main lobby, please follow the signs for registration.  Please reference the following campus guide. In addition, signs will be posted at all events. Volunteers (wearing maize t-shirts) will be available to answer your questions all weekend.

Should I consider renting a car for the weekend?

For your convenience, we will provide shuttle service to Michigan Ross and back each day from the hotels listed above. We will also provide taxi vouchers for any additional transportation needs to and from GBR events. Please note that the vouchers may only be redeemed in Ann Arbor.

Shuttles from the hotels to Michigan Ross will operate on a continuous basis beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday with the last pick up from the hotels at 5:50 p.m.  Service will begin at the Kensington Court, followed by the Four Points Sheraton and the Hampton Inn.  If you are staying at the Fairfield Inn or the Courtyard, your shuttle stop is in front of the Four Points Sheraton.  If you are staying at the Holiday Inn Express, your shuttle stop is in front of the Kensington Court.

Friday morning shuttles from the hotels to  Michigan Ross will be at 8:00 a.m., and 8:30 a.m.  More detailed information will be available in your registration packets.

If you drive or rent a car, we encourage you to leave your car at your hotel, as parking at the University of Michigan is extremely limited. However, should you need to drive to campus, there are several public parking lots are located throughout Ann Arbor and typically cost about $1.30 per hour.

Is my partner or significant other welcome and will there be activities planned?

YES! Partners and significant others are not only welcome at Go Blue Rendezvous – they are strongly encouraged to attend! GBR provides an exceptional opportunity for partners and significant others to meet other Ross Partners, to learn about the Ann Arbor area, to experience the Michigan Ross culture, and to address any concerns they might have. A number of events are designed for both admitted students and their partners throughout the weekend. On Friday, there will be programming designed specifically for partners.

Should I bring my children?

Although Michigan Ross is a very family-friendly business school, most of the activities planned during Go Blue Rendezvous are not well-suited for children.

Do I need to attend the entire GBR weekend?

We strongly encourage you to attend all of the formal Go Blue Rendezvous events to learn as much as you can about Michigan Ross, our academics, our culture, and whether the school is a good fit for you. The social events on Thursday and Friday evening also provide a fabulous opportunity to meet the Michigan Ross community and your future classmates.

Since GBR finishes Saturday afternoon, should I stay in Ann Arbor through the weekend?

We absolutely encourage you to stay through the weekend to extend the immersion experience. Several student groups have planned informal weekend events on Saturday afternoon and evening. Please consider these events when you make your travel plans. In addition to student planned events, we hope you’ll stay to explore Ann Arbor. From comedy clubs and delicious restaurants to exceptional bars, museums, and student sporting events, Ann Arbor offers something for everyone! You can learn more about Ann Arbor’s attractions online or contact your student guide for more ideas.

How much money should I bring for the weekend?

Please bring enough money to cover your hotel, airport ground transportation, and some meals.  Thursday's dinner and Friday's breakfast, lunch and evening reception are on us.  Shuttle service between Ross, specified hotels, and some Ann Arbor destinations will be provided throughout the weekend.

WARNING!   You may feel strongly compelled to pay your deposit at the end of the event, so don't forget your checkbook or credit card!

What type of clothing will I need for Ann Arbor?

Dress for all events is casual. Formal attire is not required for any event. Weather in Ann Arbor can be fairly unpredictable in April, so please come prepared to dress for both warm and chilly temperatures (layers are a great idea).  Your best bet is to check the weather before you leave for Ann Arbor and pack accordingly.
