Minyuan Zhao is an Assistant Professor of Strategy at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. She is also a faculty associate at the International Policy Center (IPC) and the Center for Chinese Studies (CCS) at Michigan. Before joining Ross, she was on the faculty of Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota. Minyuan earned her Ph.D. from New York University, M.S. from Fudan University, and B.S. from Xiían Jiaotong University in China.  Minyuan's research examines the interactions between firm strategy and external environment in a global context: How market institutions affect firmsí global strategies, and how firmsí strategic organization across borders shapes the global economic landscape. One particular area of interest is the relationship between intellectual property rights protection and innovation strategies of multinational firms. Her work has been published in leading academic journals such as Management Science, Journal of International Business Studies, and Journal of Economics and Management Studies.  Minyuan is currently teaching several courses at Ross: The Global Environment (EMBA), World Economy (MBA), and International Business (Ph.D.), and she is a recent winner of the EMBA teaching award. Prior to joining academia, she had work experience in entrepreneurship, government think tank, and the automotive industry.
