MREACH brings Detroit and other Southeast Michigan high school students (urban and rural) to the Ross School of Business for a series of action-based learning experiences introducing the young people to basic theories of business disciplines, with a special emphasis on accounting as the fundamental building block. In addition, MREACH offers students insight into the college planning process and business careers.

Tauber Leadership Speaker Series - Marcus Chao

Dr. Marcus Chao is the CEO and President of Lean Enterprise China, Inc. (LEC), a non-profit organization disseminating lean practices to Chinese manufacturers. In 2005 he retired from Delphi Global Supply Management as a Director. From 1995-2001, he was Chairman and President of Delphi Holding Company in China. Marcus’ 30 years of management experience in global corporations covers engineering, materials management, manufacturing, supply management, and business development. He is skilled in leadership, Sino-U.S. business development, supply management, quality systems, and developing lean enterprises.

An active leader in the Asian-American communities, Marcus served as the president of the Association of Chinese Americans and the Michigan Chinese Academic and Professional Association. He was a board member of the Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce. He is a current board member of the Shien-Ming Wu Foundation that established the Manufacturing Leadership Award to promote the importance of manufacturing leadership on both the advancement of the manufacturing industry and the improvement in quality of life. He also served on the former National Advisory Board for the University of Michigan Museum of Art.

Mark Reuss is currently the Executive Vice President, Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain for General Motors.

During the last four years as president of GM North America, Reuss produced consistent profits and improved margins during a product renaissance, including the launch of award-winning vehicles such as the Cadillac CTS and ATS, Cehvrolet Corvette and Impala, Buick Encore, and GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks.

Asia Business Conference

The Asia Business Conference is the pioneer conference about Asia at the Ross School of Business whilst also being the longest-running student-organized business conference about Asia in North America. This year’s 24th annual Asia Business Conference will be held on February 7th and 8th, 2014 at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

This year's keynote speaker is Michael W. Michalak, former U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam. He retired from the Foreign Service at the end of 2011 after over 30 years of service. A career Foreign Service Officer with extensive knowledge and experience in Asia, was sworn in as the United States Ambassador to Vietnam on August 10, 2007 and served there until March of 2011 when he took on the position of Special Advisor to the Private Sector Host committee for APEC 2011 USA. Since retirement, Ambassador Michalak has begun a consulting business in international trade and government relations. Prior to these positions, Ambassador Michalak served as the U.S. Senior Official to APEC, Bureau of East Asia Pacific Affairs.

Ambassador Michalak will be speaking in Blau Auditorium at 5:00 PM, Friday February 7th.
