  Remote Network Access

The Business School uses a hybrid star\bus topology in a switched networking environment with Cat3 and Cat 5 Ethernet that delivers 10MB and 100MB (with capability up to 1GB) high speed Internet access throughout the school for office, classroom, and lab computers and student laptops.

  Lab and Office Computers

Business School office, classroom and lab computers have
  • High-speed network access through the School's Ethernet wiring.
  • Direct access to the Business School's file, e-mail and Web servers in the BUS domain.

Login to the Business School LAN using a faculty or staff ID is required.

  DHCP Service

An IP address, a computer's unique identifier on the Internet, is required for Internet access. The Business School has a pool of IP addresses that are assigned dynamically to workstations and laptops upon connection.

  Laptop Connections

Locations
Ethernet and power connections for laptops are in the following locations:
  • Student Labs and Student Lounge
  • Kresge Library: group study rooms
  • At every seat in tiered classrooms
  • In the floor in flat classrooms
  • Wyly Hall break-out rooms

You Will Need

  • You will need an Ethernet card and an Ethernet cable.
  • We automatically broadcast our TCP/IP settings, so all you should need to do is plug in for high speed internet access. If you need Ethernet Setup Instructions (PDF) or other assistance please see our Laptop Setup page.
  • Once connected, you will have full internet access - we do not use any firewalls.
