Computer Services provides standard supported hardware
(listed below) and
software for faculty and
staff.
Supported Hardware
Computing Services provides full
support for supported hardware. Supported hardware
is a system that either:
- is purchased with the help of our
computing staff
- is completely configured and
setup by the vendor including all components
-
is purchased from one of
several supported manufacturers (Dell, IBM, etc.)
Hardware includes desktops,
laptops, and all peripherals.
Acquisition Process
Adequate lead-time is required.:
- All purchase orders have to be processed
through Central Campus, which can add 2 weeks to the process of acquiring hardware or
software.
- All orders over $5000 must go through a University bid process.
- Custom purchases must be funded
through departmental accounts or be approved by the Dean's Office.
- Funding for equipment used by
staff is contained within departmental budgets.
- The Helpdesk will deliver and
connect to the network all hardware within 3 business days of its
arrival.

Upgrading Computers
The Business School upgrade faculty and staff
computers on a 3-5 year cycle. The computing labs and classrooms are upgraded on a
shorter cycle as needed. As computers are upgraded senior PhDs who have
attained candidacy will be given preference for computers.
Faculty may choose between a desktop or laptop, and may choose to
fund the price difference for any desired upgrades or a laptop in
addition to a desktop computer.

Custom Computer Hardware
For a custom system (that is, a system that does
not meet the criteria for a supported system) our Helpdesk will provide service on a "best
effort" basis.
Installing Hardware on Existing
Computers
Our Helpdesk will help install new or replaced
components on a supported system. Since adding hardware to your original
equipment may alter its classification from supported to custom hardware, our
staff will help you determine the implications of any alterations to your
system.
Macintosh Computers
Since a significant majority of computers owned
by the Business School are PC-based running Windows, the majority of
our service technicians and HelpDesk staff are trained on the Windows platform.
We offer limited support for Macintosh equipment on a best-effort basis.

| IP Phones |

Cisco IP Phones give you the advantage of
Exchange Voice Mail.
Exchange Voice Mail has all the basic features of traditional voice mail services plus these advanced features:
the ability to manage your mailbox from a telephone or computer, the ability to receive fax messages, and a voice (speech) or
touchtone interface while on the telephone. If you are currently an ITCS Exchange e-mail user, adding Exchange Voice Mail to
your account allows you to access all of your messages through one unified mailbox. Exchange Voice Mail can be used on both
traditional and VoIP telephones.
Instructions for using the Cisco IP
phones are available for models
7911G and
7945G.
