Uniqname Request

 

The Uniqname Request process is available to admitted students who have returned their Enrollment Reply form. 

Are You a UM Alumni?  Please note if you already have a uniqname you will still need to go through this request process to re-activate student services. 
 

 What is a Uniqname?

  • Uniqname is pronounced "unique name" and is your personal identifier that you will use to log into UM online services.

  • A uniqname and password are assigned to each new University of Michigan student.

  • You will keep your uniqname for life, so choose it wisely.  It will be part of your lifetime email address which uses the format uniqname@umich.edu.

You need a uniqname and password to use computing resources at the University of Michigan.  Services include access to iMpact and other secure university web sites, access to your email account, research databases, and more.  You will need it immediately to do the following:

  • Upload your photo to iMpact's Photobook

  • Create face cards in iMpact for your professors

  • Register and/or adjust your course schedule in Wolverine Access beginning in August

  • Take the online writing assessment in August.

Already have a Uniqname?

Even if you already have a uniqname from the University of Michigan, you will still need to complete this process in order to re-activate your existing uniqname student services. 

Please complete the process following the instructions above with the link below.  Use your one time ID to activate your services. 

You will not be able to create a new uniqname.  In the process, the system will identify your existing uniqname.  You will have an opportunity to change your password.   

 

 Before You Begin...

Before clicking the link below, make sure you:

  • Have already sent in your Enrollment Reply Form (with deposit for the Full-Time program if applicable) and allowed four weeks for receipt and processing.

  • Have your UMID at hand, which is found in your Admissions letter.  You will need to use it for the uniqname request process.

  • Have your One-Time Identifier (OTID) at hand. The ten-character OTID sent to you after you return your enrollment form.  You will use your OTID with your UMID for the uniqname request process.

Contact the ITCS Campus Support Desk at online.consulting@umich.edu or phone (734) 764-HELP if you do not have your OTID and it has been at least two weeks since you mailed your enrollment form.

  Request or Re-Activate Your Uniqname

  • Once you have created a uniqname, please be sure to continue the process to create the password at that time.  If you create a uniqname then stop the process before creating a password, you will need to call the ITCS Accounts office to set your password.
  • Your One Time ID can only be used once to successfully create one uniqname.  In case of failure, you can re-use the same OTID until successful. 
  • If you have misplaced your OTID, policies do not allow ITCS to reissue an OTID via e-mail. . Students must call 764-8000, option #1 to get an OTID reissued.
