  Account Basics

The Business School operates an Exchange mail system for Faculty, Staff and Ph.D. students.
  • Microsoft Outlook is our supported software to access Exchange e-mail accounts.
  • We support group mail features such as the Global Address Book, Meeting Scheduling Tool, Out of Office Assistant and more.
  • Our Exchange server can be accessed through Webmail from any computer with Internet access.
  WebMail & Remote Access

Access to your Business School mailbox on the web is at:
http://webmail.bus.umich.edu

Login with your uniqname.  No special set up is required.

Tips for Using Webmail

Where is Everything?
Note Your Inbox messages are divided into "pages."  The first page of messages will display.  To navigate to other pages, use the Page box or arrows on the toolbar.  The default is to show 25 messages per page - this setting can be changed in Options.

Remember to Refresh
A web page must reload to display changes.  As you read or delete messages, your Inbox will not update until you click on the Reload/Refresh button on the browser's toolbar.

Be Sure to Log Out
Click on the Log Out Icon on the left menu bar when you are finished.  Simply closing your browser or ending your Internet connection will not properly release your session from the web server, causing slower service for everyone.

Using Microsoft Outlook Remotely

For security, use our Virtual Private Network (VPN) to connect to Outlook from your home computer.  For more information and instructions, visit our Remote Network Access page.

  Using iMpact's Messaging Service

Use iMpact's Student Directory to reach groups of students

You can email all students or all students in a class, in a course, in a section, etc.  Messages using the Student Directory cannot contain attachments and will be sent as plain text.

  Outlook Setup & Use

Microsoft Office Outlook can do so much more than just send and receive email.  Download one of the following handouts to learn more about the features that make Outlook a powerful collaborative tool:

Here are basic instructions for specific Outlook tasks in our environment:

  Using Campus E-Mail

Your uniqname@umich.edu address is typically forwarded to your Business School Exchange mail account. Most faculty and staff prefer to use Exchange because of the features.

If you wish to use your campus mail account, you can have your Exchange mail permanently forwarded (note this excludes continued use of your Exchange mailbox), or you can use it as a separate mailbox.  For example, you could use your uniqname@bus.umich.edu address to deliver directly to Exchange, and your uniqname@umich.edu address to deliver only to your campus mailbox.  You would need to remove the Business School forwarding address from your campus Online Directory entry, and you will not receive any internal Business School mail in the campus account.  Contact the Helpdesk for assistance to ensure proper mail delivery.

Forwarding Your Mail to Another Account

Your Business School Mail Delivery

Contact Computing Services to permanently forward your Exchange account to a different mail account.

You can forward incoming mail addressed to you at uniqname@umich.edu, however this will not forward internal Business School mail that does not go through the campus gateway.

Your Campus Mail Delivery

Your uniqname@umich.edu address can be forwarded to any mail account(s) of your choice.  Enter your forwarding address in your Online Directory Entry at http://directory.umich.edu.  Search for your uniqname entry, click on Bind to login, then click on the Modify button and enter your address in the E-Mail Forwarding field.  You can forward to multiple addresses by entering them one address per line.

See Directing Your Email Delivery for complete instructions.
