Uses of the Online Directory
The University of Michigan
offers a web-based Campus
Online Directory
that lists contact information for all current students, faculty
and staff. You can look up other people at the University
of Michigan, and manage your own entry.
The Online
Directory offers such information as email addresses, phone
numbers, and more. You can use the online directory to search for other UM faculty, staff and student contact
information, and to manage your own entry.
Your Directory Entry and Mail
Forwarding
This system allows more options than a traditional Internet
Service Provider. To best understand delivery, it is
useful to make the distinction between an email address and an
email mailbox. A traditional account provides an
address that delivers to a mailbox. The University
provides an address that can deliver to multiple mailboxes.
Your uniqname@umich.edu address must be forwarded to at least
one mailbox.
Your email will
be delivered to the account registered in your Directory entry.
Mail forwarding is done by
adding the address in the email forwarding field of your Online
Directory entry. Your email is delivered to the mailbox account(s) of your choice that are listed in your entry.

| Direct your
uniqname@umich.edu address to deliver to any
email
mailbox or multiple mailboxes of your choice by registering the actual accounts
in the Online Campus Directory. (By default for incoming students, the email
entry is set to their ITCS mailbox. The default for faculty and staff is
their Exchange mailbox.) You can easily change this or add other accounts.
In any browser, go to
www.directory.umich.edu.
- Click on the Bind button to change your personal information.
- Login with your uniqname and umich password.
- Click on the Modify button
- Change your information as needed in the
fields provided. To change your email destination enter the complete
email address in the field for email forwarding.
- You will receive a copy of mail addressed to your
uniqname@umich.edu in
each of the accounts listed.

If you are a student, your
uniqname@umich.edu
mail is initially forwarded to your campus mailbox
(uniqname@mail.umich.edu). You can modify this in the Online Campus Directory to
deliver to other account(s). You should modify it upon graduation with a
forwarding email address then keep it up to date - your directory entry should
always contain an address to a current mailbox account for lifetime email
service.

| If you are a Business School Faculty, Staff or
Ph.D. student, your uniqname@umich.edu mail
should be forwarded to your Business School Exchange account. If it is not forwarded in
the Online Directory, you will receive internal mail sent within our Exchange
system, but you will not receive any mail from outside the Business School
addressed to your uniqname@umich.edu.
If the Business School Created Your Uniqname
If you have a new
uniqname by provided Computing Services, your uniqname@umich.edu mail is
forwarded to your Exchange mailbox (uniqname@bus.umich.edu). Setup
was handled by our staff.
If the Business School Did Not Create Your Uniqname
If you had
an existing uniqname before you came to the Business School, you will need to
enter your uniqname@bus.umich.edu address in your Online Directory entry.
(Our staff did not set up your uniqname so are not able to do this for you).
Forwarding Your Exchange Account
Contact the Business
School Computing Services office to permanently forward Exchange to another
account - please note this prevents continuing use of your Exchange account.
Please note:
If you forward your
uniqname@umich.edu account in the Online Campus Directory, mail sent to this
address will be delivered to the other accounts, but this will not include mail
sent internally at the Business School. The internal system does not use
the Online Campus Directory for delivery.
