Getting Started at the Ross School of
Business
What is My iMpact?
My iMpact is a customizable web
portal to offer news and information that you want, all in one
location.
My iMpact also makes it simple for you to keep your contact
information current,
connect with classmates, and post a resume for recruiting
activities.
Can non-Business School students get access to iMpact resources?
Students from other Schools at the
University, but taking a course at the Business School may pay a fee
to gain access to iMpact and its many resources and tools.
Visit the Career Center in room K2336 in the Kresge Business
Administration Library.
What is a "uniqname"?
A uniqname is a campus-wide login user
I.D., which you use to login to all University resources, including
your University supplied email account and email address.
Accessing web resources will also require a password. This
password is known by many names (uniqname password, kerberos
password, University password, ITCS password) but is essentially the
password that is associated with your uniqname for login to all
secure resources associated with the University of Michigan,
including those specific to Ross.
Your uniqname login is managed by ITCS
Accounts Office (764-8000). Depending on how and when your
account was created, our Computing Services staff may be able to
assist you with login issues or can help you work with ITCS to
correct the problem. Please note you may need to resolve some
issues in person at the Accounts Office in the Michigan Union.
How do I set up my uniqname?
Upon admission you will be sent a
temporary University ID so you can begin taking advantage of many of
the web resources offered exclusively at the Ross School of
Business through the iMpact web portal.

Once your enrollment deposit is
received, you will be sent a confirmation with a One Time ID (OTID)
and instructions. You will need both your UM ID and this OTID
to create your uniqname and set your University password. Once
this process is completed, you will have access to the full range of
services offered in your
Basic Computing Package
through ITCS.
When selecting a password, use at least
six characters with symbols and numbers and avoid anything that can
easily be guessed, such as dictionary words, dates, family/pet
names, etc. Visit ITCS webpage for recommended guidelines in
creating a secure password.
If you are returning to the University
of Michigan, it is important to complete this process to reactivate
the services associated with your existing uniqname.

What policies and guidelines do I need to follow when using technology
at Ross?
Our wireless network is a shared
resource. Please do not run large downloads or bandwidth
intensive sessions over the wireless network since this impacts
other users. Instead use Ethernet, which offers dedicated
bandwidth for these types of activities. Ethernet connections
are available in all large classrooms and throughout the Business
School complex. Ethernet cards may be borrowed from the Kresge
Library Circulation desk for periods of two hours with your MCard.
All University of Michigan technology
users should be aware that by using University equipment they are
implicitly bound by certain rules and
policies which were agreed upon by obtaining a uniqname
login. These rules include a high code of ethics when using
University equipment:
|
 |
Do not use your University email
address or account to send span or chain email |
|
 |
Do not use your University
email address or personal webpage for solicitation and
profit |
|
 |
Respect software licensing and
compliance agreements |
 |
Do not download illegal music
or video |
|
 |
Respect the privacy of other
users |
|
 |
Do not tamper with equipment |
|
 |
Do not do anything that
interferes with the intended use of
University information resources |
Consequences for violation of these
agreements could be severe!
How is printing allocated at Ross?
ITCS allows students to print up to 400
black and white pages per semester at no charge under the
Basic Computing Package - this
allocation is for printing at other computing labs on campus, which
use a different metering system.
The Ross School of Business provides
Ross students with $200 worth of printing per academic year -
printing charges are tracked through your
MCard by using card readers at all printers. Printing at
Ross is charged at $0.10 per black/white page and $0.50 per color
page (please note that 2-sided printing will still equal two pages). Additional funding can be added to your account
on the
Entrée
Plus website
or at their office in the Student Activities Building.
On average, each student prints
approximately 800-1000 pages per semester. Our printing
allocation is meant to be generous to accommodate printing mishaps,
such as poor toner, typos, paper jams, etc. Therefore, credits
are not given. Your remaining balance will not rollover into
the next academic year, and a refund of unused printing will not be
issued. However, this does not mean that students should try
to use their whole allotment - please try to "print green".
Visit our
Printing page to learn more.
Are there any orientation sessions or other
information to help me understand my computing resources?
DiscoverIT is offered each summer to
introduce our incoming students to Ross computing resources and
assist with laptop purchasing and configuration. Sessions will
also be offered for Winter incoming students. Self-help
information and links, and Q&A and presentation schedules are
available at the
DiscoverIT webpage.
Information regarding your
Basic Computing Package is
available through Information Technology Central Services.
Are there maps to help me find my way around the Business School?
Maps of the Ross School of Business
complex can be found in stairwells and near exterior doors in each
building. Kiosks are stationed near main entrances with maps,
daily events and contact information for faculty and staff.
Online maps are also available in
My iMpact.
