Email Services
How do I access my University email?
You can access email in your
University
email account through the internet. Simply login
with your uniqname and password.
You can also use a third-party email
client to access your University email. The
ITCS website contains easy-to-use
documentation on configuring a number of different email software
applications. For further assistance, you can contact ITCS at
(734) 647-HELP.
If you are an MBA student, you are
using an email account on an Exchange server. You can connect
your Exchange account to either Outlook or Entourage and you can
view your mail online at
https://exchange.umich.edu.

Can I connect my email account to a Blackberry device?
Blackberry devices can be very useful,
however they may not work well with your ITCS email account.
To take full advantage of the features of a Blackberry, you need to
connect via a Blackberry Enterprise Services (BES).

MBA students can connect their Exchange
account to a Blackberry device. For more

How can I get help with my email account and email software?
Laptop Support may be able to assist
you with your email software on your laptop. Visit
Laptop Support during their regular
service hours.
Your University account is provided and
managed by ITCS - they can help you with questions relating to your
email account or accessing your University email through an email
software. Either visit the
ITCS website or call (734)
764-HELP.
Do I have to use my University email account?
ITCS Accounts:
You do not have to use your ITCS email
account. You can easily forward your
uniqname@umich.edu email address to any email account.
Simply change the email forwarding instructions in the
UM
Directory.
Exchange Accounts:
MBA students have Exchange accounts
through ITCS. You can change your uniqname@umich.edu forwarding
instructions, but emails from your peers that are sent through the
Exchange server will not be affected. If you wish to change
your uniqname forwarding, keep in mind that you will have to check
your email in not only your personal email account, but also your
Exchange account.
If you have a Gmail account, it can be
configured to access your Exchange account. For more information and instructions,

Regardless of what email account you
use, be sure to use your
uniqname@umich.edu email address for correspondence and for your
iMpact profile.
With lifetime forwarding, you can change email accounts whenever you
wish, and only update your contact information in one place - the UM
Directory.
Are there any restrictions in using my
University email account?
Be aware of
your mailbox size. You can view your
account balances online, including
your available and used space in your email account and IFS network
space. If your email mailbox exceeds the limit, colleagues
will receive a delivery failure notice when they attempt to send you
email.
You may send attachments from your
University email account, but they cannot exceed 2MB in size.
To share large files, store them in your Shared or Public folders in
your IFS network space.
All University of Michigan technology
users should be aware that by using University equipment they are
implicitly bound by certain rules and
policies which were agreed upon by obtaining a uniqname
login. These rules include a high code of ethics when using
University equipment, including email services:

Consequences for violation of these
agreements could be severe!
What happens to my email after I graduate?
Your ITCS email account or Exchange
account is provided to
you while you are a student at the University. Once you
graduate, you can continue your UM Computing Services for a fee by
subscribing to
UM On-Line.
If you do not wish to continue your UM
Computing Services, backup your email using a 3rd party email
client, then change your uniqname@umich.edu
email address forwarding instructions on the
UM
Online Directory to a current email account.
Regardless of what email account you
use, be sure to use your
uniqname@umich.edu email address for all correspondence. With lifetime forwarding, you can change email accounts whenever you
wish, and only update your contact information in one place - the UM
Directory.
How can I email a group of Ross students?
The
iMpact database
contains contact information for faculty, staff and students at the
Ross School of Business. You can access individual profiles,
or use the
Student Directory to send messages
to groups of students. Please note that you cannot send
attachments through the Student Directory.
Our MBA students have direct access to
email all other MBA students through their Exchange accounts.
Can I create a UM email address for my club or team?
You can create a UM email address that will forward email to a group
of email accounts through the
UM Online Directory. Click
the Help button for detailed instructions.
Does the University offer any tools to help me
control spam email?
Nothing is more annoying than having to
sift through spam to find the email that is important to you.
ITCS has a group dedicated to helping you keep spam under control.

and tools are available to keep spam out of your Inbox.
If you are the group owner of a UM
group email in the
UM Online Directory, you can
restricting the group to Members-Only or Private. Choose
"Members-Only Groups" or "Privacy" from the Help menu in the Online
Directory for detailed instructions.
The Exchange server available to MBA
students has an active spam filter called Brightmail. A simple
rule in your email software application identifies all email that
has been marked by Brightmail as spam.
