How will my professor share documents with me?
Your professor may simply email the
files to students, so be sure your uniqname@umich.edu email
address is forwarding to an account you check regularly.
Also be certain your email address is correct in
My iMpact.
When emailing files back to your professor, be aware that you cannot
send attachments over 2MB in size through the University email
system.
Professors can share files with
students in the R:\Courses network folder. The lab computers
throughout the Business School are already able to access this
folder. This folder can be accessed on your laptop and from
off campus through the internet using ftp.
The files and folders in R:\Courses are read-only - students cannot
save or modify files in this network location.
Many Business School courses have
worksites in
CTools, a course communication and management web tool
offered through the University of Michigan. Professors can
post announcements and additional documents on CTools.
How do I get the Course Materials my professor needs me to have?
Instructions for ordering your
Course Materials are available through the Kresge Library website.
Course Materials are ordered through
CTools.
What is CTools and how can it help me?
CTools provides features to supplement
and enhance teaching and learning, and CTools is very easy to use.
Once you are registered for a course that has a CTools site, it will
be automatically listed in your Workspace. Within each Course
Site, you can access documents in Resources, view Announcements,
join discussions and the chat room, and submit assignments.
Login to
CTools to get started.
Are there computer labs available for me to
use at the Business School?
We have standard computing
labs on the bottom floor of the Electronic Resources building and
the Courtyard Lab in the hallway outside of the labs, as well as
workstations on the
second floor within the Kresge Library, in the Student Lounge and in
various locations throughout the Business School complex.
These workstations are available for unlimited time without
reservations during regular hours. Workstations within
the Library are available during regular
Library hours. Workstations
within the computing labs are available during
lab hours. All other
workstations are available whenever the buildings are open. All computer
workstations run Windows Vista with the Office 2007 Suite as well as
specialized software - visit the
software page for a list of
available software. These workstations have optical mice,
sound cards (please provide your own headphones) and CD-Rom drives.
Our Commerce Park facility in Dearborn
offers the same wireless access and lab software as the Ann Arbor
campus, and is available primarily for our Evening MBA students.
The software available on lab computers
is also available for use on your own desktop computer or laptop by
using our
Virtual Lab, which is available 24
hours a day.
A Multimedia Lab on the
fourth floor of the Kresge Building within the Library contains workstations equipped with specialized software and
equipment for creating and editing video for use in presentations.
To learn more and to reserve a workstation, visit the
Multimedia lab page.
How can I get access to special software
needed for my classes?
Any
special software needed for your
classes will be loaded on the workstations available in the
computing labs, library and throughout the Business School complex.
If you cannot make it to campus or wish
to use your own computer,
"Virtual Lab" allows you to use the software available on the lab
computers anytime with your own laptop or home computer. Visit the
Virtual Lab page to download the
