Updating Your Faculty Profile on the Web

Faculty are asked to maintain a short biography and post their current vitae on our web site.

In the Faculty and Research section of the web site, the side menu bar has a link to Faculty Profiles.  You can search for your profile by name or department.  In the iMpact section of the side menu bar is a link to My Faculty Profile as well as My Profile.  Use the Faculty profile to manage your biography text and upload your photo and CV in Word or PDF format.  The Personal Profile is used to manage contact information.

Using the Photo Directory

iMpact offers a Photo Directory of current Business School students, staff and faculty.

Faculty can use this tool to print out class photo pages, identify a face with a name, or a name with a face!

On the Business School web site, click on Directories and Contacts in the top menu bar.  In the iMpact section of the side menu bar, click on the Photo Directory menu link. Search by individual name or by desired group. You can also access this tool from your Personal Tools page.

Students can create a "Face Card" with their photo from the Photo Directory and contact information, and other information for your use. Please note each individual must make their own since it requires secure login.

E-Mailing Your Class

You can e-mail groups of students by using Wolverine Access, requesting a CTools e-mail list, using iMpact's Student Directory Messaging Tool, or using the Outlook Download program.

Wolverine Access Class Roster Emails

To view and print class rosters in Wolverine Access, click on Wolverine Access Teaching Support main menu then choose Class Rosters.

You can create and send e-mail directly from a Class Roster. You are given the option to e-mail the entire class, including waitlisted students and students granted electronic permissions to enroll (overrides) that have not been used. You are able to address your e-mail message to any combination of these groups of students (enrolled, waitlisted, and unused permissions). In addition, you may select individual students from the roster to receive your e-mail message. For instructions, see the Wolverine Access Help on Creating and Sending E-Mail.

Wolverine Access also enables you to create and save Microsoft Excel versions of Class Rosters. Converting Class Rosters to Excel format allows you to use the data for a variety of purposes. For instructions, see Wolverine Access Help on Creating an Excel Spreadsheet Version of the Class Roster.

iMpact's Messaging Tool

From the Business School web site, you will need to log into iMpact if you have not already.  Click on the Directories and Contacts link in the top menu bar of the web site.  Select the Student Directory from the Impact section on the side menu bar. Select your class from the drop down lists - by either Section, Course, Course Section, etc. - you can only select one group per message, but you can add individual addresses (including other distribution list addresses) in the message to field, and checkmark the box to copy yourself. Attachments are not possible - you will need to copy the text and paste it into the message window.

Using Outlook to Create Distribution Lists

In Outlook, you can create distribution lists easily. Choose File menu - New - Distribution List - Add Members. Name the distribution list, then address messages to this name in the To field. This list is saved as a contact alphabetically under its name. You can open this contact to add additional members.

You can either "Add Members" to enter in each address manually (in the form uniqname@umich.edu). While this may sound labor intensive, it can go fairly quickly if you have a list of the uniqnames for those you wish in the group. For courses, you can easily obtain a list of uniqnames of registered students from either M-Pathways or through CTools.

Alternatively, using the RSB Outlook Download tool you can download the email addresses for groups of Business School Students (as well as Faculty and Staff) from the iMpact Student Directory (and Faculty and Staff Directory). First install the Outlook Download program (which you can obtain from the Computing Services Software page), and review the instructions in the guide also linked from this site.

Using this tool you can download the group of students you select as individual contacts in Outlook. In Outlook, you can then create a distribution list and add each contact you downloaded by choosing Show Names from Contacts. You can reopen the distribution list contact to edit it, or click on the Update Now button to update the list if you have refreshed your data from the Outlook Download.

Printing a Class Roster

Faculty can generate a class list of registered students from either CTools or M-Pathways.

In CTools, a Faculty member or Instructor Assistant can use Instructor features to manage access to their sites.

You may also request a roster from M-Pathways through your faculty support staff. Since this is the source data reflecting up to the minute changes, the list could be slightly more up to date than the CTools roster which is updated daily from the M-Pathways data. Using either method, the data is limited to students officially registered for the course.

Arranging Support for High End Presentations

We have staff to help you both create and deliver important projects.

Assistance with Creation:

If you have a sophisticated project that you need help creating, contact the Multi-Media Support group. They can assist you in how to do it, or you can provide an account number for them to do it for you. They will work with you to meet your deadlines.

Assistance with Delivery:

  • Lab Assistance: The upper lab has student lab assistants regularly scheduled. At the time of making your lab or room reservation, you may request lab assistants to be scheduled for your session. While we cannot guarantee assistance due to the nature of scheduling students, we will make an effort to arrange for this support if you request it well in advance.
  • Special Event Assistance: While we are unable to provide support for regular classes, for high profile events it is possible to arrange for Computing Services staff assistance. This service is typically offered for Board Meetings, Conferences, Guest Speakers and similar events.

See Who to Call for Assistance for current contact names and numbers.
