Finding the right health insurance is a big concern for incoming and continuing students.
Incorporated into your tuition is the health services fee (HSF) which covers most services provided by the University Health Services. However, you will want to get additional health insurance coverage to avoid accruing major medical bills from costs not covered under HSF.
For information on the Affordable Care Act, and how that affects you as a student, please view the UHS website.
Domestic Student Health Insurance Plan
The Domestic Student Health Insurance Plan was developed in consideration of students' needs and budgets. It provides good benefits at a competitive price and includes a basic vision plan. The plan is more costly if you have a spouse, domestic partner, or children.
You can also explore other options at eheathinsurance.com. Depending on your situation, you may find plans that are cheaper or that provide better coverage for your needs than the Domestic Student Health Insurance Plan mentioned above.
International Students Health Insurance
International students are required to have health insurance. Insurance for international students is managed through the International Center.
Travel Abroad Health Coverage
If you plan on traveling internationally for study, work, volunteer or leisure you should consider purchasing the University of Michigan's Travel Abroad Health Insurance. The University of Michigan makes this insurance plan available (and requires individuals to purchase it if the travel is sponsored by the University) in order to reduce the impact of health problems associated with studying, working, volunteering and traveling abroad. This plan is administered by HTH Worldwide, a leader in international travel health insurance. All currently enrolled UM students and eligible dependents may purchase this Travel Abroad Health Insurance.
