When you ask many Ann Arbor residents about the city’s best feature, they often respond “it’s the beautiful trees and parks.” There are over 140 parks within the city limits alone, not to mention countless outlying parks and nature areas. Listed are some examples of the many parks that Ann Arbor has to offer:

Burns Park

The park, set in an attractive neighborhood within walking distance from Ross, contains tennis and basketball courts, softball fields, soccer field, picnic shelter, and a well-equipped playground.

Gallup Park
3000 Fuller Rd., Ann Arbor, 734-662-9319
This 69-acre park featuring nature trails, picnic area, play areas, concession stand, canoe, rowboat and paddleboat rental, boat launch, and fishing.

Nichols Arboretum at the University of Michigan

“The Arb” is a forest preserve located within walking distance of central campus. Owned and maintained by The University of Michigan, its wooded slopes and open valleys contain different native and exotic species of trees and shrubs with walking trails.

 Check out http://www.michigan.org  and discover unparalleled park attractions, including Metro parks along the Huron River that offer everything from rollerblade trails to Frisbee golf courses, plus an indoor ice arena.

Visit Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation for a list of 147 city parks, many that are along the Huron River. These parks include facilities such as soccer fields, swimming pools with outdoor water slides, tennis courts, and an exercise circuit.

Currently, 13 Metroparks covering almost 24,000 acres, serve about nine million visitors annually. The Metroparks are located along the Huron and Clinton rivers, providing a greenbelt around the Detroit metropolitan area. Canoe rentals, baseball, hike-bike trails, swings and slides are just a few of the features located at these parks.

Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation have over 2,700 acres of parkland and nature preserves, including swimming beaches, walking and nature areas, children’s play equipment, water park, volleyball, disc golf course, and fishing. Winter sports include sledding and cross-country skiing.

Discover Ann Arbor’s beautiful parks, with softball fields, tennis courts, nature trail, playgrounds, picnic areas, and much more. “Discover our town” site has information on everything from scuba diving to recreation areas.

 Ypsilanti Township
With over 30 parks and recreation facilities, you’ll enjoy nature, biking, tennis, and host of other outdoor activities on these 890 acres.
