Sorman received his BFA in Painting from the University of Minnesota in 1971 and has been represented in shows and collections since. Sorman is most known for his multimedia , complex paintings, drawings, and prints. Collage is a central part of his artistic practice. He creates detailed layered works with his skill in using line, media, and color.

Spine is a 10-color edition of roughly vertical elements pieced together to make a final horizontal print. Rich blues, reds and browns dominate the main panels while each are joined by different runs of blues.
