Michigan Ross is
ranked No. 1 in the world for leadership development. The Ross Leadership Initiative (RLI) is the center of excellence at
Michigan Ross for leadership development. The RLI
team is responsible for the school's integrated strategy and programmatic
approach to leadership development. An integrated set of
co-curricular and curricular leadership development programs and
practices gives Michigan Ross students the skills and global mindset
necessary for leading organizations in the 21st century.
RLI programs and practices are rooted in the Michigan Model of
Leadership. This model draws on extensive leadership research conducted
by Michigan Ross faculty, and offers a unique point of view about leadership in
today’s complex and dynamic world. At Michigan Ross, leadership is:
- Our Purpose: To make a positive difference in the world
- Our Values: Empathy, Courage, Integrity, and Drive
- Our Actions: Develop collaborative communities, enable creative change, build strategic structures, and create robust results
We develop these leadership capabilities in our students through four guiding principles:
- Leadership is activating your inner strengths and capabilities to enable others to make a positive difference in the world.
- Leadership is a leverage concept. Leaders do not command compliance of others. Leaders leverage the strengths and capabilities of others to accomplish a collective vision.
- Leadership is not a position or title. Leadership is a set of actions that anyone can engage in.
- Leadership is learned through experience. The ability to learn from experience determines a person's leadership potential.
“At Ross, our aspiration is to offer
students a truly transformational experience where they realize their
full potential as leaders, and truly embrace the opportunity and
responsibility they have to make a positive difference in the world. We
do this through our research, teaching, and partnerships with students
to design and deliver truly transformational experiences.”
