Truman Semans is the Director of Markets and Business Development at the Pew
Center on Global Climate Change. He leads the Center's Business Environmental
Leadership Council (BELC) of 39 corporations working to address issues related
to climate change. He also directs the Pew Center’s work on capital markets and
corporate strategy, and he coordinates the Center's external alliances.
Mr. Semans has held senior management positions in the software industry, where
he focused on systems for business performance management in energy,
environment, health, and safety. At McKinsey & Company and the consulting firm
he founded, Mr. Semans advised corporations in several sectors on business
strategy, restructuring, M&A, technology commercialization, and new venture
development. Before McKinsey, Mr. Semans served as International Economist on
energy, environment, and policy at the U.S. Treasury Department. There, he
advised emerging market governments on sustainable development and directed U.S.
involvement as lead shareholder in the Global Environment Facility, the largest
multilateral financier worldwide of climate change mitigation and biodiversity
protection. Mr. Semans has worked with the White House on numerous trade,
investment, and environment initiatives and served on the U.S. Climate Change
Delegation. He joined Treasury after several years directing projects to
facilitate energy efficiency in Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. He has
also worked in private equity with Deutsche Bank and BOVARO Partners.
Mr. Semans has a Masters with Academic Distinction in International Economics
and International Relations from Johns Hopkins SAIS and an MBA from Duke
University. He sits on several boards, including with Duke’s Nicholas School of
the Environment and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
