The business world has long viewed the health and happiness of its employees as essential to maintaining a competitive edge. Legal employers, in contrast, have been slow to accept this notion, treating workplace initiatives designed to improve attorney well-being—such as flexible schedules, gym memberships, and intensive mentoring programs—as costly and indulgent. This conference made “the business case for happiness” in the legal workplace, examining how and why these types of initiatives boost not only attorney well-being, but the bottom line.
