My research examines factors that facilitate collaborative learning for quality improvement within and across health care delivery organizations. In recent work, I combine qualitative and quantitative research methods to explore: (1) the role of leadership in mitigating the negative effects of professional status differences on psychological safety and engagement in work groups; (2) the types of strategies improvement project teams use to help staff learn new work practices and promote interdisciplinary collaboration; (3) how individuals use online communities for knowledge-sharing in order to help their organizations make positive change; and (4) the role of network identification in motivating teams to learn from teams in other organizations.
