If you are interested in learning more about how to "think green"  please look at the list below.
We have provided you with some
Green Tips for you to keep in mind throughout the year to help the UMBS Community
Reduce, Reuse & Recycle

Reduce

There Are Many Ways To Reduce Waste
Practice double-sided printing when possible, save items that you no longer use for * Green Clean Day *
(many supplies found in the Reuse room are utilized by other departments)

Reuse

There Are Many Items Which Are Reusable
Binders, binder/paper clips, books, computer software (you may check with Computing Services to find out if your software is reusable), manila    folders, office furniture, and much more. If you have any questions regarding whether or not you have items which may be reused, please contact the Green Team at  * thegreenteam@umich.edu *

Batteries Are Reusable
Household batteries (dry cells) contain heavy metals (mercury, lead, cadmium, etc.) that can leak from landfills if thrown in the trash, posing a potential threat to water and human health. When possible, use rechargeable batteries to save money and the environment. One charger can charge many different sizes of batteries. You may also dispose of  used batteries here at the Business School in the student lounge, where they will be picked up for safe disposal.

Recycle

Transparencies Are Recyclable
Transparencies may be collected at the secretarial stations (most secretaries have labeled boxes for collection), you may also send boxed transparencies to 3M Recycle Program, C/O Genmark, 99 Stevens Lane, Exeter, PA 18643.

Toner Cartridges Are Recyclable
Toner Cartridges for network printers may be collected by Computing Services when you arrange for a new toner delivery (you may do this by emailing the Computing Supplies account in Outlook Exchange, or  * computingsupplies@bus.umich.edu *). Recently, it has also been discovered that we may recycle HP DeskJet, InkJet, and other small toner cartridges. You may bring these cartridges to the Computing Services front desk to be sent out, or you may send these cartridges via campus mail to Computing Services  If you would like to know if your cartridge may be recycled, please check the following list:

Many Different Types Of Paper are Recyclable
The recycle bins will take paper books/manuals, cardstock, flyers, glossy catalogs/magazines, cardboard (which needs to be bagged or bundled separately for the custodians to pick up), envelopes with windows, hanging file folders (you must remove the wire from which the folder hangs), spiral notebooks (you must remove the binding), manila folders, newsprint, phone books, shredded paper (this must be bagged separately).

NCR Carbonless Forms
These may be put in the recycling receptacles.

There are also many items that are NOT recyclable. In fact, if you place trash items (even something as small as a soiled kleenex) in the recycling receptacles, it will contaminate the entire bin and everything will be thrown away.

In order to avoid this, please review the following list of items that are considered trash:

Carbon paper
Food/food wrappers
Napkins/tissues
Sticky labels/adhesives
Thermal fax paper
Waxy cardboard
