Co-sponsored with the Taubman College of Architecture and Planning, the Center for the Study of Complex Systems, and Center for Advancing Research and Solutions for Society

Free to the public, this workshop aimed at setting an interdisciplinary research and policy agenda, including aspects of land use, transportation, public health and environment. It explored the different aspects of accessibility–beyond mobility–in U.S. metropolitan areas and will examine how policy, technology and urban design affect our access to places, thereby creating livable cities.

John Ehrenfeld is Executive Director, International Society for Industrial Ecology. In his talk, he called for more focus on the fundamental shift in thinking required to achieve sustainability, including an emphasis on systems thinking skills.

Gwen Ruta, "How Environmental Defense and FedEx are Transforming Trucks"
Gwen Ruta is Director, Alliance for Environmental Innovation, Environmental Defense. She will be detailing how ED worked with FedEx and the Eaton Corporation to design, test and roll out new hybrid delivery trucks that improve fuel efficiency, reduce harmful emissions, and pay off the costs of using advanced technology over the lifespan of the vehicle.
