DEX Quiz Bowl Team Wins Championship
Michigan Business School chapter dominates awards ceremony
The University of Michigan Business School Delta Epsilon Chi (DEX) Quiz Bowl team won its third international championship in April. The Michigan team, which has dominated the Quiz Bowl event since the chapter was founded four years ago, also won in 2001 and 2003.
DEX is a professional development business club open to all majors, however, most members are pre-business or Business School students. Each year, DEX participates in major competitions at DEX's state and international Career Development Conferences. The conferences consist of numerous competitive events for students to showcase their business knowledge and savvy, including business simulation events, case studies, prepared business presentations, and special events. The Quiz Bowl is the only team event at the competition.
With competitors in most events, Michigan students dominate the awards ceremony each year. This year, 44 students were awarded top spots at the state level, including eight first-place positions. By placing in the top three, competitors qualify for the international competition. The results are impressive. In addition to the first-place Quiz Bowl team consisting of Manda Lai, Jamie Domeier and Ted Elnekaveh, other Michigan winners and their events include:
Andrew Richards in E-Commerce, first place
Domeier and Elnekaveh in International Marketing, third place
Edward Santos in Entrepreneurship, Top 10
Grey Levy and Dan Nelson in Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Top 12
As team member Manda Lai says, "UM DEX is an amazing organization with endless reasons to be proud of itself." Faculty adviser Katherine Erdman adds, "We've just had our best showing at nationals, we've had a state president from our group and we've been the catalyst for forming the newest DEX state chapter. In sum, this is a high-achieving chapter beginning to make a national name for itself. I'm excited about the opportunities for both team and individual development."
