Balance of power in global supply chain shifting toward suppliers.

ANN ARBOR, Mich.—Modern manufacturers manage large, complex supply chains that are constantly evolving. Professor William Lovejoy, in a podcast, explains why these firms rely on top partners to manage their upstream, lower-tier suppliers, and sheds some light on a shift in bargaining dynamics. The ideas are based on his working paper Conversations with Supply Chain Managers. Lovejoy is one of several world-class Ross faculty that teach in the Business Acumen Executive Education program, next offered March 29-April 7, 2011. In that program, Lovejoy covers the physics of process flows, which is the core of operations management.
