High Morale in Low Times :: Audio

4/20/2009 --

Ross professor considers morale of employees plagued by uncertainty in the workforce.

ANN ARBOR, Mich.—Massive layoffs, budget cuts, closures. The news is bad enough for workers and executives who lose their jobs. But what about those who are still employed -- and plagued by uncertainty in the workforce? Professor Gretchen Spreitzer reveals how companies can boost morale during hard times. Spreitzer is a professor and chair of management and organizations at Ross. Her research focuses on employee empowerment and leadership development, particularly within a context of organizational change and decline. Her most recent work is looking at positive deviance and how organizations enable employees to flourish.
