Dear Ross Students:
Welcome! With the start of a new semester underway, this email is a reminder of some of our offerings and latest additions.
You can join us for a live virtual orientation session where everything below will be discussed, and you'll have the opportunity to submit questions and have them answered live. You have two chances to watch live: today at 2:00pm, and next Tuesday, September 2 at 12:00pm. If you miss them both, you can watch any time on-demand!
Wireless & Printing
You'll want to be connected to the MWireless-Ross network while you are here. Non-Ross UM students can use it, too! It's fast, safe, secure, and you must be connected to it in order to use Follow-You Printing. (By the way, our printers got a few upgrades over the summer... you can now print from your iPad, and the printers can staple and hole punch when you print documents from your laptop!)
Virtual Computer Lab
Ross’ public computer labs have been completely virtualized. You can connect your laptop or iPad to one of 80 different “virtual lab computers" to use a fully equipped, Ross-imaged desktop computer. You may find the virtual lab useful if you do not have your own copy of Microsoft Office, SPSS, Stratsim, Decision Tools, or even Photoshop. Click here for more information…
Media Production Lab
The video and audio production lab is now located on the first level of the ER building, off to the side of the lobby area inside the East University entrance. Use it to add a little creativity to your projects! It has all the tools needed to assemble an audio or video project from start to finish, including HD cameras, professional lighting, color-screen backdrops, and three editing stations.
iMpact Go! gives you the functionality of iMpact in your pocket. Reserve a room, search the directory, use the jobs database, get notifications of upcoming events and watch live and streaming video from right inside the app. Available for iPhone, iPad and Android devices, iMpact Go! gives you access to iMpact's most popular features without having to use a computer.
The Ross Academic Calendar has been updated for the 2014-2015 year and continues to be available online as a shared Google Calendar. Click here to open the calendar. Add it to your list in order to toggle it on and off under your list of "Other Calendars."
Ross Study Rooms: Now with PCs!
Each of the study room in the Ross building has a built-in Windows PC with wireless keyboard and mouse and an HD web camera. This widens the range of potential uses for the rooms and makes it easier to collaborate or conduct video conferences. Wake the computers by moving the mouse, and log in using your uniqname and password.
Find Your Missing Piece
We know there are a ton of resources, and it's impossible to cover them all in this email. What's more, we may already offer a service you don't even know you're looking for. Let us try to help you "find that missing piece."
Please visit or call the Technology Concierge desk in the Ross Building lobby with any questions, concerns, or to just say hello. See the sidebar for contact information and hours.
Follow us on Twitter @UMRossIT for up-to-the-minute updates on everything Ross Technology, from announcements of new services, to quick tips and tricks for popular software and apps, to notifications of (ever rare) outages.
We wish you a happy, productive, and prosperous semester!
