How do I log out of the RossWirelessSecure network?

Disconnecting from RossWirelessSecure will automatically log you out. If you wish to have an extra layer of security, do not save your password when configuring RossWirelessSecure. If your password is not saved, you will prompted to enter your password every time you try to connect to the network.

Which IEEE protocols does the RossWirelessSecure network support?

The RossWirelessSecure network supports the IEEE 802.11a, 802.11g, and 802.11n protocols.

Exactly what network traffic is allowed when I use RossWirelessLite?

Since RosssWirelessLite does not provide any encryption or security (except a secure login), we limit the types of network applications you may use and web sites you may visit. This wireless connection is meant primarily to check your email, visit common web sites, like newspapers, and perform basic company business. We block insecure protocols and/or open network ports that could be used by malicious individuals to obtain U-M user passwords or your private information. Unfortunately, this means that some programs may not work when using RossWirelesLite.

I have a wireless network set up in my home. Will I need to reconfigure my computer to use the RossWirelessSecure network?

No. You should not have to reconfigure your computer's wireless connection. However, if your computer is configured for static IP address, then you will have to change the settings so that your computer accepts DHCP automatically.

How can I be sure that RossWirelessSecure is secure?

RossWirelessSecure (and the campus MWireless) connect to our wireless network using a security standard called WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access, which relies on a trusted security certificate granted to Ross. This certificate verifies the identity of our network authentication server. Your computer will require 802.11n/g-compatible wireless hardware and operating systems that is WPA2-Enterprise Certified. Most devices today have the ability to use WPA2. However, some older operating systems may require additional updates or driver patches to work with WPA2. If you have any difficulty connecting to RossWireless, please check the manufacturer's web site to make sure you have the most recent updates for your operating system and hardware drivers.
