Job Search & U.S. Work Authorization Workshop Video -
in this session for international MBA1 students held in
September 2009, Leslie Mulder (OCD), Tony Tsai (Instructor,
Strat 425) and a small panel of MBA2 students discuss
elements of a strong internship recruiting strategy for
international students. During the final half hour, Linda
Kentes (International Center) discusses U.S. work authorization
topics for students in F-1 and J-1 status, including internship
(CPT via Strat 425 enrollment, Academic Training) and
post-graduate (OPT, Academic Training) authorization.
-
H-1B Preparedness Video - hosted by an attorney from the
International Center, the Office of Career Development and
Academic Services, this session outlines basic H-1B visa
information, including reviewing the undergraduate (65,000) and
advanced (additional 20,000) degree holder quotas and historical
H-1B supply/demand information. In the final ten minutes, Evonne Plantinga (Senior Associate Director of Financial Aid and
Academic Services) discusses the procedure that Day MBA (this
degree only) students can take to complete degree requirements
by the end of Winter A in their MBA2 year. Academic Services
will run a degree audit in early March and supply a letter
stating that the student has completed degree requirements to
students who meet this criteria. The student will give the
letter to the company’s attorney in March, enabling the
company’s attorney to petition for the advanced degree quota of
H-1B visas in the beginning of April, the earliest H-1B
petitions can be filed. Should demand for H-1Bs exceed supply
during the first week of April, in which case a lottery takes
place, this gives the company an extra 20,000 chances to be
granted an H-1B.
