Your privacy is important to us, and its protection is supported by national and state laws, specifically the Michigan Library Privacy Act, as well as through University of Michigan policies and guidelines.

Anonymous Information

We gather information about use of the Kresge Library catalog and website to we can better meet your needs and troubleshoot problems. None of this information identifies you personally.

Catalog Access

Catalog use is tracked by the IP address from which you accessed the catalog, and logged by the date and time you accessed the catalog. These logs are discarded after 10 calendar days.

Website Access

We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous information about how people get to the Kresge Library website, what kind of technology they use to browse the site, and what content is accessed. We do this to get a better idea of what our users need to do their work so we can make the website as useful as possible.

Personally Identifiable Information

Kresge Library purges circulation data (i.e., data on what resources have been checked out) as soon as items are returned. However, information stored in My Account is retained.

Access to this information is restricted to Kresge staff who need to use it in the course of normal business. This information is never used for commercial or marketing purposes and will never be revealed to any third party except by such process, order, or subpoena authorized by national, state, or local law.


To guard against unauthorized access, maintain the integrity of Kresge Library Catalog data, and promote the proper use of that data, we have implemented physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect.

While we consider these reasonable measures, no guarantee can be made that they will always prevent invalid access or improper activity.
