Kresge Library Circulation Desk staff oversees transactions related to borrowing privileges, fines, renewals, and material requests.
All UM students, faculty, and staff who have a current or continuing affiliation with any UM campus may borrow regularly-circulating materials from the Kresge Business Administration Library. Faculty from CIC institutions and Michigan universities and colleges may also borrow from the collection.
All borrowers must have a valid MCard or other college or university ID.
Individuals who do not fall into the categories above, including Ross alumni, may purchase an External Borrowers Card, good for one year, for $100.00. Purchases may be made at the Kresge Library Circulation Desk.
Separate guest borrowing privileges are also available for the main University Library. These privileges can be obtained at the Hatcher Graduate Library North Circulation Desk.
Please note that due to contractual obligations with vendors, remote access to subscription databases cannot be extended to External Borrowers.
Borrowing by proxy is intended to provide borrowing priveleges to individuals working for or with a University of Michigan faculty member who has permanent teaching appointment.
The proxy account is created only upon written authorization of the faculty member
Although the proxy carries the issued card, the sponsering faculty member is wholly responsible for all materials borrowed in his or her name.
All notices and correspondence regarding Circulation items will be addressed to the faculty member.
The faculty member assumes full responsibility for the use made of the card. These responsibilities include:
- Prompt communication with the proxy regarding all notices and correspondence.
- Return and renewal of books on the due date
- Immediate return of books that are recalled for use by other borrowers
- Payment for all library materials that may be lost while charged to the proxy
- Written notification if a proxy is to be revoked or cancelled before expirey date.
The sponsoring faculty member's borrowing privileges, as well as the proxy's, will be suspended if the proxy card becomes delinquent
A proxy must have a valid UM uniquname and UM email to be eligable

Loan Periods, Fines, and Renewals
Loan periods and fines vary based on the type of item, patron affiliation, and location. Please contact the Circulation Desk for information on loans and fines.
Renewal times depend on the type of item and patron affiliation. Generally, patrons are allowed 3 renewals per item. Kresge Library patrons can renew items by logging into their Kresge Library account with their last name and 14-digit MCard barcode number, or by calling or visiting the Circulation Desk.
Requesting Checked-Out Items
Patrons can place requests on regularly-circulating items that are checked out, either from Kresge Library or from the collection at Flint. Requests can be made by accessing the item's record in the Kresge Library Catalog, and clicking on the "Request" button that appears both above and below the item record. Users will be required to log into their Kresge Library account.
Requesting Items from Other Libraries
Kresge Library patrons can borrow materials from other libraries throughout Michigan using the MeLCat system. When requesting items, select "U of Michigan Business" as the pick-up location. Patrons can pick up and return MeLCat items at the Kresge Library Circulation Desk.
UM affiliates may also place requests for items through the University Library Interlibrary Loan service.
