Circulation Policy

All students, faculty, and staff possessing a current or continuing affiliation with the Ann Arbor, Dearborn or Flint campuses of The University of Michigan may borrow materials from the Kresge Business Administration Library. Faculty from CIC institutions and from colleges and universities in the State of Michigan are also accorded borrowing privileges. A valid college or university I.D. is required to check out materials.

Persons, including Ross alumni, who do not fall within the above categories may purchase an External Borrowers card.

Loan Periods and Fines

Loan periods for items vary and are based on patron affiliation and item location. Contact the Circulation Desk ((734) 764-1375) for additional information. Fines on overdue items in the Stacks collections (Stacks, Flint Stacks, Working Papers, Browsing) accrue at the rate of $.25 per day per item. Fines on overdue Reserves and Periodicals Collection items accrue at the rate of $1.00 per hour per item.

Holds and Recalls

A hold or recall may be placed on a non-periodical or non-reserve item that has been checked out by another patron.

Non-periodical, non-reserve items can be placed on hold at any time.

Items can be recalled. Recall notices will give a new due date of not more than 10 days from the date of the notice. If books are not returned by the new due date, borrowing privileges will be suspended. The fine for overdue recalled items is $1 per day. Privileges will be reinstated upon the item’s return. *** NOTE: ALL patrons will be assessed a $1 per day fine for each recalled item returned later than its new due date, except Business School faculty, research scientists, and doctoral students, whose borrowing privileges will be suspended until the item has been returned.

Once the item has been returned, the requesting patron will be notified that the item will be held for 7 days at the Circulation Desk.

External Borrowers Card

People, including Ross alumni, falling outside of the borrowing categories defined in the Circulation Policy may purchase an External Borrower card for $100 at the Kresge Library Circulation Desk ((734) 764-1375). A Joint External Borrowers card giving borrowing privileges at the Kresge Library and all University Library System member libraries may be purchased from the Circulation Desk at the Graduate Library ((734) 764-0400). Privileges at either Library expire one year from date of purchase and can be renewed at the rates for this service at time of renewal.

Purchase of this card gives the holder 3-week borrowing privileges for items in the Kresge Library's Stacks collections collections (Stacks, Buhr Stacks, Working Papers, Browsing) and two-hour borrowing privileges for items in selected Reserves collections. Fines on overdue items in the Stacks accrue at the rate of $0.25 per day per item. Fines on overdue Reserves accrue at the rate of $1.00 per hour per item.

Please note: Due to contractual obligations, remote online database searching privileges cannot be extended to External Borrowers.
