Creating Power Presentations Using Graphics, February 15, 2008

As part of the Ross School of Business’ mission to increase design literacy of business school students, the Yaffe Center, in conjunction with the Executive Skills Program at Ross, organized a workshop on “Creating Power Presentations” on Friday, February 15th, 2008. Susan T. Rogers, a graphic designer, spoke on using graphic design to improve PowerPoint presentations. The workshop was widely attended by about 70 students and faculty from Ross.

About Susan T. Rogers:

Susan Thornton Rogers is a graphic designer with expertise in Communication Design, Strategic Design, Identity and Branding, and Exhibit Design. She has designed award-winning publications and materials for many companies throughout the US including Aetna, IBM, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Texas Instruments, the New York Public Library, Ernst & Young, and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Susan Rogers worked in the New York office of Chermayeff and Geismar and in Chicago for the corporate design offices of RVI Corporation and Crosby Associates. In 1981 she formed a Chicago consulting office with clients in both the corporate and non-profit areas. She taught design and typography at the State University of New York at Purchase and at the University of New Haven. In 1985, she founded Laundy Rogers Design with her partner, Peter Laundy. Over the next ten years they developed a national practice specializing in corporate identity and strategic design. In Detroit in 1995 she formed Susan Thornton Rogers Design. Also in Detroit she was hired by Media Genesis, a web development company to advise them on how they could establish a digital branding capability.

She is currently working on prototypes for a large information design project that is to be installed in a wine tasting space in San Francisco. Susan has also been teaching for the past eight years at the College for Creative Studies. She has taught in the Animation and Digital Media Department and the Graphic Design Department.

Susan received her BA from Connecticut College and MFA from Yale University. She serves on the board of many organizations, including the Body Politic Theater, Society for Typographic arts, Detroit Artist Market and the Detroit Institute for Children.
