Leverage: India
|
The Center for Global Resource Leverage: India is a
research satellite of the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University
of Michigan. Scholars study
the next practices of managers, including how they leverage global resources and
access new markets. Another area of interest is the interface between global
firms and Indian firms, as well as the issues and challenges associated with
maximizing the talent pool and knowledge infrastructure in India.

The center is jointly directed by Professor C.K. Prahalad, the Harvey C.
Fruehauf Professor of Business Administration, and Professor M.S. Krishnan, the
Michael R. and Mary Kay Hallman Fellow and chair of the Business Information
Technology area.
Globalization of business is a
reality today, whether in the form of markets, or the source of
physical, financial or human capital. Continued improvement in cost and
capability of global communication infrastructure has made global resource
leverage one of the mega-trends of our era. Further, fragmentation of knowledge
work such as R&D and Engineering is presenting companies with never-before
opportunities to leverage competitive and affordable human capital, regardless
of location, to create sustainable competitive advantage. Ross Business
School has taken a lead in generating knowledge in the field and providing thought
leadership to the emerging trend of global resource leverage.
India presents the most
promising opportunity for leveraging global resources, and is expected to remain
the leader in the segment for the near future. We at the Ross Business School
believe in the potential of Indian economy and Indian businesses, and anticipate
major benefits for businesses worldwide if the knowledge infrastructure and
human capital of India is appropriately leveraged. As a result, the center will
focus on issues related to Indian economy and business, and also will strive to
function as a hub of India-related activities at the Ross Business School.
To study and provide thought
leadership to such an emerging area, a global resource leverage needs a
multi-disciplinary approach, deep commitment to the inherent potential of the
business trend, and India as a destination. The Ross Business School
is part of one of the best research universities in the world, and has
established deep linkages with India and the nascent global resource leveraging
industry; hence, it is ideally suited.
Through the Center’s research and teaching, the following problems and issues
will be addressed:
- How can global and Indian firms benefit from the developing outsourcing
relationships?
- What dynamics define this relationship?
- What are the points of tension in this relationship, and how can they be
resolved?
- How can companies shape these outsourcing relationships to sustainable,
mutually beneficial propositions
A list of past and current
research at Ross Business School relevant to the topic can be found under
the Resources link.
