David C. Blair’s research focuses on the logical and linguistic issues of representation and associative searching in document retrieval, implementing document retrieval on a relational database, evaluating the status of formal information retrieval theory as scientific theory, the management of information in large-scale corporate lawsuits, and document-based decision support.

AWARDS: Prof. Blair has received a number of international awards for his research. In 1999 he was selected as the premier international researcher in Information Science. This award was given by ASIS, the American Society for Information Science and Technology. In 1990 his book Language and Representation in Information Retrieval (Elsevier Science, 1990) was selected as the "Best Book in the World in Information Science". This award was also presented by ASIS. And in 1980 one of his published papers "Searching Biases in Large Interactive Document Retrieval Systems" was selected as the "Best Paper of the Year" published in the international journal JASIS (Journal of the American Society for Information Science).
