Frequently Asked Question

What is Project Management?
A: Project management is a methodical approach to planning and guiding project processes from start to finish. Project management entails balancing a project’s time frame, budget and overall scope as the team works to meet its objectives. Project managers oversee the individual tasks that move a project toward completion, so its ultimate success or failure depends in large part on the project manager’s competency.

Q: How does participating in this program help me in my job search and career?
A: Project Management certification demonstrates that you have the knowledge and skills to lead projects. You will learn and practice PM skills that employers seek, and which help projects succeed. Because teams need strong leaders, the most successful project managers are also decisive, inspiring leaders.

Q: Is there a cost to the certificate program?
A: The cost to participants is $500 and is non-refundable.

Q: What does the IPMA Level D® certification mean?
A: IPMA Level D® (Certified Project Management Associate) is an internationally recognized entry-level qualification in the area of project management. This designation, which demonstrates the individual’s ability to understand the basics of project management, is similar to the exam-oriented, knowledge-based certifications of other major Project Management associations. For many, Level D® is the first step towards a professional project or program manager role. It is the first step in a sequence (C, B, and A) to be earned by demonstration of success in larger PM responsibility sets.

Q: Why is there also a U-M certificate?
A: Project Management certifications are available through many other channels. We believe that the global reputation of the UM brand will contribute significant added value to the certificate program.

Q: What is the expected workload?
A: The program will be approximately equal to 1.0 credit hour in meeting times and workload. Students are expected to attend all three modules and complete Mastery assignments for each module.

Q: How does IPMA Level D® certification compare to others?
