University of Michigan Ross School of BusinessCommunity Creation 2006-2008
Building the Learning Community of the Future

What Students Need to Know

With construction for new facilities under way, this is an exciting time to be at the Ross School of Business. Our goal is to reconfigure our environment in a way that will improve the functionality and aesthetics of our existing campus and expand program space so that we may continue to foster an interactive learning environment.

In its present state, our campus does not enhance a team-based approach to learning or allow for an increase in core class size. The new facility will match our strategic intent with space and facility requirements by integrating all Ross School functions into one campus building. It will be the largest, multifunctional new building in our history and meet the school’s needs in terms of function, culture and symbolism. (See Campus History).

During construction, it will be “business as usual” for students. Every effort is being made to ensure that the Ross student experience is preserved while accommodating the changing needs and demands of students.

Prospective Students

Nearly 40,000 square feet of existing facilities (including five state-of-the-art classrooms and 20 group study rooms in Wyly Hall) have been made available for degree program students. For all Ross students, this is a marked improvement over existing program space. This was made possible by moving our Executive MBA and Executive Education programs offsite to the Michigan Information Technology Center during the two-year construction period.

For day-to-day activities and access to resources, it is important to note that the following will not be affected by construction:

  • Kresge Business Administration Library.
  • Computing labs will remain open with additional space on the second floor of Kresge Library. This area houses approximately 40 lab computers, new printers, an improved laptop support area and group study seating.
  • The Tozzi Business and Finance Center.
  • MBA classrooms.
  • BBA classroom needs for 2006-07 are being studied. In anticipation of our needs, we have leased 10 classrooms from LS&A and the School of Education and are equipping them with the necessary technology.
  • Parking.

Current Students

We also have inherited several great new community spaces:

  • A new two-story student lounge is located on the lower level and first floor of the Executive Residence.
  • A new Information Desk is located on level one of the Executive Residence and is staffed by Facilities personnel 8 a.m.–10 p.m.
  • Wyly Hall classrooms and group study rooms are now dedicated to degree program use.
  • The upper floors of the Executive Residence and Wyly Hall have been converted from hotel rooms to faculty and staff offices.
  • The Executive Residence dining facilities are open to the entire Ross community. Our food services vendor will continue to evaluate and make adjustments to food services as necessary.
  • The first floor of the Executive Residence lounge now hosts the Ross School Café where you can purchase coffee, smoothies, soda and snacks.
