General Information

Commencement Exercises Schedule

The ceremonies are open to all Ross School April 2012 and August 2012 Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degree graduates and candidates, as well as any December 2011 graduates who did not participate in the April 2011 ceremony. Tickets are Required.

Date: Friday, April 27, 2012
Location: Hill Auditorium
BBA and MAcc Ceremony: 3:00pm
MBA and PhD Ceremony: 6:00pm

TIMING OF CEREMONIES

BBA and MAcc Ceremony:

PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE UNTIL 2:15pm
There is a Commencement ceremony before yours - staff will need time to prepare the auditorium.

TIMING

2:30pm – Graduates in place: Music begins
2:45pm – ALL guests in seats - Ceremony Announcements
2:55pm – Platform Party Processional
3:00pm – Official Ceremony begins
4:15pm – Anticipated conclusion of Ceremony

MBA and PhD Ceremony:

PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE UNTIL 5:15pm

Graduating Students

  • Ushers will be available to assist graduates into Hill Auditorium and in locating the proper seating area.
  • Graduates will be able to access the stage for recognition during the ceremony via a ramp.

Disability Access

The University of Michigan wants to ensure that all graduates and guests can participate fully in this program. Hill Auditorium has accessible entrances on the east and west sides of the building.  The west entrance is very close to Thayer Street, where cars may drop off passengers.  Staff will be available in Hill Auditorium to direct and assist guests to the special areas. Wheelchair seating as well as a seating area with real-time captioning is available for persons with hearing impairments. A sign language interpreter is present during the ceremony.

Please note - Graduates will be able to request seating for their guests, in this area, on their ticket request form (which will be sent to all eligible students in April 2012).

Etiquette

  • All graduates and guests should stand for the National Anthem.
  • All graduates are required to stay for the entire ceremony.
  • Platform party guests will leave before graduates. Please wait for the appropriate cue from the ushers to leave.
  • Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in Hill Auditorium. Anyone found with alcoholic beverages will be escorted out of the facility.
  • Smoking is prohibited in Hill Auditorium. U of M is a smoke-free campus; click here for additional information.

Parking

Parking is available beginning at 9am on Friday, April 27th in all University of Michigan parking structures.  The Thayer and Fletcher Street parking structures are closest to Hill Auditorium.  The structures closest to the Ross School of Business are Hill and Forest.  Additional parking structures include Thompson, Church and Palmer.

Photography

  • Professional photos will be taken of each graduate as he or she shakes hands with
    Dean Davis-Blake on stage, and again as each graduate exits the stage.
  • You are not obligated to purchase any of these photos.
  • Taking photos at the stage by friends or family during the ceremony is not permitted.

Tickets

Ross Commencement

Seating at Hill Auditorium is limited, Tickets are Required for All Participating Graduates and Guests. All eligible graduates were sent a ticket request survey in April 2012.

Please note: If students did not reply to the ticket request email sent the week of April 2nd, we will assume that they are not attending Commencement and do not require tickets.

All graduates will need to pick-up their tickets in-person (with their UM-ID).  Tickets will not be released to individuals other than the student that completed the Ticket Request Survey.

Students who requested their tickets through the Ticket Request Survey but were not able to attend a ticket pick-up time, can now pick-up their tickets in the Office of Student Life.  They will be available for pick-up on either Thursday, April 26th from 8am to 5pm or on
Friday, April 27th from 8am to 12noon in E2420.

University Commencement

Tickets ARE ALSO required for the University Spring Commencement at Michigan Stadium on Saturday, April 28th. Please refer to the Graduate's Guide for additional details.
