Commencement Details from the
2005 Student Government Association & Global Blue

Congratulations to the Class of 2005:

Friday, April 29th we will take part in the 2005 University of Michigan Ross School of Business Commencement ceremony for April and August graduates. This year's event will be held in Crisler Arena at 6:00 p.m. Please follow the instructions as detailed below:

  • Arrival at Crisler - Degree candidates should arrive at Crisler Arena no later than 5:00 p.m. Enter the arena through the doors to the left and above the tunnel entrance. This will place you in the Concourse hallway which runs around the perimeter of the arena. Guests should arrive no later than 5:45 p.m.

  • Processional - Degree candidates will begin the processional at precisely 5:50 p.m.

  • Attire - Academic attire is required. Bring bobby pins for your caps and safety pins for your hoods (if necessary). The Arena can get warm, so we suggest leaving your suit coats at home or with guests during the ceremony. Your tassel is worn to the right; switch the tassel to the left side after you have crossed the stage. Ushers can assist you with your academic attire before the processional.

  • For your safety and for the consideration of others, only graduates are permitted on the arena floor. Please make this clear to your family and friends.

  • Ph.D.s - Assemble outside Concourse Section 32 and identify yourself to the usher coordinator who will be standing in that section. When instructed, proceed single file down Aisle 32. Ph.D.'s will sit in the first row of the center section. Signs will be posted to designate the assigned row. Enter with other graduates you wish to sit with in your degree area. Please ask the ushers if you have any questions.

  • MBAs - Assemble outside the section designated below and identify yourself to your Global Blue Representative or the usher coordinator who will be standing in that section. When instructed, proceed single file down your designated aisle. Signs will be posted to designate the assigned rows. Please ask the ushers if you have any questions.

On your seat you will find a blank name card and pencil. Please fill out this card with your name and address, spelling your name phonetically on the reverse side to help the reader. Bring it with you to the stage so your name can be read aloud. This card assists the professional photographers, as they will send you a proof of your graduation photograph.

  • Photos - Professional photos will be taken of each graduate as he or she shakes hands with Dean Dolan on stage, and again as each graduate exits the stage. After the ceremony, the photographer/s will also be available to take photos with your guests. You are not obligated to purchase any of these photos. Taking photos at the stage by friends or family during the ceremony is not permitted. There will be ample time after the ceremony to take personal shots.

  • Plants - Please do not remove any of the flower arrangements surrounding the stage. They will be used during the School of Engineering commencement the following day.

  • Etiquette - All graduates are required to stay for the entire ceremony (about 2-1/2 hours) which concludes with a Faculty recessional. Stage guests will leave before graduates. Please wait for the appropriate cue from the ushers to leave. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in Crisler Arena. Anyone found with alcoholic beverages will be escorted out of the facility. Likewise all smoking is prohibited in Crisler Arena.

  • Accomodations for persons with disabilities -

    • Graduating Students: A reserved parking area for graduating students with disabilities will be made available near the tunnel entrance of Crisler Arena in the reserved VIP area, located on the north side of the Arena and reached by entering the main parking area.  Graduates and candidates who use wheelchairs will be able to access the stage for recognition during the ceremony via a ramp.

    • Guests & Visitors: Guests and visitors who are disabled, including mobility impairments due to health conditions or frailty, may park in a reserved area located between Michigan Stadium and Crisler Arena. Personnel will also be available to direct and assist people into Crisler Arena. Guests who use wheelchairs or Amigo carts or who cannot climb stairs will be seated along the inner concourse of Crisler Arena. Due to space constraints, only one other individual may remain with the wheelchair or cart user in this special seating area. Wheelchair accessible restroom facilities are located near the entrance. Persons with hearing impairments may ask an usher to direct them to the reserved seating area near the graduation platform where the sign language interpreter will be stationed during the program.
