In a company’s several growth stages, executives of entrepreneurial
companies must understand how to plan and negotiate financing. Using
examples and case studies from the current financial market environment,
UM Business School faculty, successful entrepreneurs and financiers
instructed attendees on effectively presenting opportunities to financiers;
understanding capital structures, valuation, securities and strategic
alternatives; and harvesting alternatives. Participants presented overviews
of their business plans to a panel of seasoned venture capitalists,
corporate strategic investors and investment bankers.

the Entrepreneurial Company
Participating in the Telematics Value Chain: A Seminar on
Business Models and Practices

Business leaders from the automotive, telematics and finance industries
met in an interactive seminar, discussing present and future value
creation and participation in the emerging telematics industry value
chain.
Automotive OEMs & suppliers, technology and service providers and
venture capitalists provided perspectives on the telematics industry.
Panelists and colleagues utilized interactive panel discussions and
ample networking time to develop topics more fully. Investment leaders
discussed the challenges of telematics and factors necessary to increase
the flow of outside equity investment.

Angel Investing
May 2001
Individual ("angel") investors now provide the bulk of seed
and start-up capital for high potential companies. This seminar covered
principles and techniques used to qualify investments, negotiate valuation,
structure and price deals and prepare for continued interaction as
the company builds and receives follow-on financing from professional
investors.
