Interim President Joe White Speaks to New York Alumni
On Monday evening, April 1st, 2002, the University of
Michigan Alumni Clubs of New York, Northern New Jersey and Long Island,
Westchester and Fairfield welcomed Interim President B. Joseph White for a
face-to-face session. The event was held at the elegant New York
Athletic Club. Over 160 Michigan alumni, representing the classes of
1931 through 2001, as well as newly admitted students from the MBA class of
2004, turned out to greet President White. Also in attendance were
Joan Gartenberg, the mother and the widow of the late Jim Gartenberg, the
former long-time president of the U-M Alumni Club of NYC, who was killed in
the World Trade Center on September 11th. A portion of the proceeds
from the event was donated to the James M. Gartenberg Memorial Fund at the
University of Michigan.
