Bert F. Wertman Alumni Service Award

Established in 1989, this award recognizes an alumnus or alumna of the Ross School of Business for outstanding service to the School and/or to the University. The award was established in honor of Bert F. Wertman, who served for more than 60 years as President of the Class of 1928. Through his leadership and caring, the class remained a cohesive and vital group and held a record number of continuous reunions.

Daniel Hennessy, MBA ’81

Daniel J. Hennessy is a Founder and Partner of Code, Hennessy & Simmons LLC, (“CH&S”), a Chicago based private equity investment firm organized in 1988. CH&S manages approximately $2.8 billion of capital that is currently invested in 22 diverse operating companies with combined revenues of $7.5 billion. Mr. Hennessy serves as Chairman of the Board and Director of CH&S portfolio companies that manufacture and distribute a broad array of products including geosynthetic lining solutions, disposable food packaging and infrastructure construction and demolition (see: www.chsonline.com).

Prior to founding CH&S, Mr. Hennessy was employed by Citicorp from 1984 to 1988 as head of the Midwest Region for Citicorp Mezzanine Investments and Vice President and Team Leader with Citicorp Leveraged Capital Group in Chicago. He began his career in 1981 in the oil and gas lending group at Continental Illinois National Bank (now Bank of America) where he was a Banking Officer. Mr. Hennessy received his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Boston College and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan Business School.

Mr. Hennessy’s civic activities include serving as a Trustee of The John G. Shedd Aquarium; Trustee of the Greater Illinois Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Director of the Children’s Memorial Hospital and Foundation, all in Chicago. He is also a Member of the Board of Regents at Georgetown University and a Director of the Yellowstone Park Foundation.
