David D. Alger Alumni Achievement Award
Established in 1989, this award recognizes an alumnus or alumna of the
Ross School of Business whose attainments in their professional field have brought
distinction to themselves, credit to the School and benefit to their fellow
citizens.
The Alumni Achievement Award has been renamed
in honor of David D. Alger, MBA '68, and
2001 recipient of this award. David
was a dynamic, involved, passionate member
of the Ross community and a member of the
Ross School Visiting Committee. He
tragically perished in events of September
11.

Fred Erb, BBA 1947
Right after graduating from Michigan in 1947, Fred purchased his uncles
small lumber and coal business. When sold in 1993, the Erb Lumber
Company had 45 locations with $300M in annual sales. Fred and his wife,
Barbara, have been tremendous volunteers for Ross and the University at
large. They established the Erb Institute over ten years ago to create
and spread knowledge that both protects our natural world and
facilitates human prosperity. The Erb Institute is a partnership between
Ross and the School of Natural Resources where students can earn both an
MBA and an MS. The Erbs are widely credited with being at the forefront
of the idea of sustainable business practice. The Erbs are also very
active with local arts organizations and educational institutions.
