Fall 2009 Application Deadlines:
Preferred Admission - January 5, 2009
Regular Admission - March 31, 2009
High school students who wish to apply to the Ross School of Business will do
so during their senior year of high school. Admission into this program is
highly selective.
As strong quantitative skills are essential for success in the Ross BBA
Program, high school students will benefit from a foundation in calculus.
Hence, if a student were required to choose between taking AP Calculus (if
offered) and AP Statistics, calculus would provide a better preparation for this
program.
Of the students whose applications were reviewed for the Fall 2008 entering
freshman class, only 22% were offered Preferred Admission to Ross. The majority of the
students who are offered admission are among the top applicants to the
University of Michigan. We will be extending approximately the same number of
admissions offers every year. Prospective students may apply to the Preferred
Admission program by completing the undergraduate application to the University
of Michigan through the
Office of Undergraduate Admissions and indicating their interest as a
"Preferred Admit" to the Ross School of Business in the application. The
deadline to apply for Preferred Admission is January 5, 2009.
If accepted, the admitted student will become a “Preferred Admit.” This means
that the student will spend Freshman year in either the College of Literature,
Science and the Arts, the College of Engineering, or the School of Music,
Theatre & Dance. “Preferred Admits” are given a set of
requirements to meet
during their freshman year. If these requirements are successfully met, the
student will automatically be transferred to the Ross School of Business at the
beginning of their sophomore year.
Please note that if a student does not apply or is not accepted into the Ross
School of Business as a high school senior, this does not hurt the chances of
being accepted into the 3-year program. The Ross School of Business encourages
students to apply for admission into the 3-year BBA Program during their
freshman year of college. The majority of students who will enter the 3-year
BBA Program will apply to the Ross School of Business as University of
Michigan freshmen and begin the BBA Program as University of Michigan
sophomores.
University of Michigan freshmen who wish to apply to the Ross School of
Business will do so during the second term of their freshman year. Prospective
students for the BBA Program will be evaluated based on their grades and the
academic rigor of their undergraduate courses, the depth and quality of their
extracurricular activities, and the clarity and conciseness of their essays.
Students who wish to apply to the Bachelor of Business Administration Program
are required to have completed or have in-progress the following courses:
Calculus (Math 115), the Sweetland Writing Center Freshman Year Writing
Requirement, and Economics 101.
To be considered for the BBA Program, submit your completed application,
minus your U of M transcript, by the deadline. If you are a University of
Michigan - Ann Arbor student, the Ross School of Business will pull your
unofficial transcript once Winter (second semester) grades are posted.
Admission to the BBA Program is highly competitive. The middle 80% of
admitted applicants have GPAs that range from 3.3 to 3.8; however, many students
with a 3.8 GPA or higher are denied each year due to weaknesses in other areas
of their applications. The strengths of the required essays and extra-curricular activities
participated in while in college play an important role in differentiating
between applicants with similar academic credentials. The deadline for
University of Michigan - Ann Arbor freshmen to apply for regular admission is
March 31, 2009.
Transfer students are evaluated on the same criteria as U of M - Ann Arbor
applicants. We strongly consider the strength of the university you are
currently attending (e.g., overall ranking, average ACT/SAT of entering class)
in addition to the rigor of your course load and GPA.
The most successful transfer students will spend a semester or two at the
University of Michigan before applying to the Ross School of Business. This
means that earning a Ross BBA degree may take 5 or more years.
If you are a non-University of Michigan - Ann Arbor student, you must send
your final official transcript to our office by no later than
June 19, 2009 in order for your application to receive full consideration.
Submit the rest of your application by the regular admission deadline.
A minimum of 27 transferable credit hours (maximum of 45) are needed for
admission. General guidelines for those wishing to transfer to the Ross School
of Business include:
-
Courses will only transfer with a grade of C or better
(C- does not transfer)
-
Pass/Fail courses must be accompanied by official
documentation of a C grade or better
-
Mathematics: limit of four (4) credits granted for
pre-calculus course work (see
LS&A Bulletin for details)
-
Computer courses are only accepted if from a math,
computer or engineering department
-
Management of Information System courses: only
non-business courses transfer; A Level Courses: only non-business course
work transfers.
The deadline for transfer students to apply for regular admission is March
31, 2009.

and business credits.
