Year One – The Core and MAP

At the heart of the Weekend MBA format is a core curriculum that is virtually the same as the Evening core. Students receive extensive training in nine fundamental areas, from accounting to strategy. Weekend students will take all of their MBA courses in lockstep with the same cohort of peers.

The core in the Weekend format culminates with the Multidisciplinary Action Project (MAP) course. MAP epitomizes action-based learning at Ross. It isn’t a case study. It’s not an internship. It’s a live project for a sponsoring company or organization that requires students to work in teams and address a real business challenge for a real organization.

Some projects ask teams to create a business strategy, solve a market entry problem, or perform complex financial modeling. Others ask MAP teams to generate product launch plans, propose operations improvements, or draft new customer relationship regimens.

MAP requires Weekend students to commit to a full week of travel and/or on-site work in late February/early March of the first year.

Year Two – Integration

In the second year of the program students choose among several course themes for a concentrated approach in their areas of interest.

Students choose from two themes in each of the final three terms:

Spring/Summer Term: Corporate Strategy or Entrepreneurship

Fall Term: Financial Management or Operations Management

Winter Term: Global Business or Business Analytics

In each themed group, you’ll deepen the knowledge acquired in the core, and you’ll examine a common case across several courses from different disciplines. You might look at a growth challenge first through the lens of a financial analyst and then through the eyes of a brand manager. Maybe you will learn how an issue of corporate governance and transparency would be affected by a particular method of raising capital.

Year two in the Weekend format is all about the broad perspective required of business leaders.
